Highwild AR500 Steel Target for Shooting 3/8" Thick Gong Silhouette Metal Target - Laser Cut - Neon Color

Probably not AR500 steel.
NOT AR500. Or so it seems. The first time I took this target out shooting we used 9mm and 22lr. It was great. Tons of fun. But the reason I wanted AR500 was to shoot at it with .556. As you can see the .556 tore this thing up. Left huge pockmarks. See the pictures I attached. The marks that didn't go all the way through are from .556 55 grain fmj. With a lead core. I've shot at other ar 500 targets and had zero problems. The holes that went all the way through are from .270 hunting rounds. (soft lead). Going to ask for a refund. If I dont get it this will stay a 1 star review.

Awesome for High Wind areas!
Update: We used Ar 5.56, 30-06, 357mag, 9mm, and 22lr. We did chip of some of the edge with the high power rifle but not to concerned about it.. other post of holes through the metal must have gotten some bad steel. 6/18/2020..This seems to be a very well made chunck of steel. I bought this for use in High Wind areas with a T-post hanger and does the job perfectly, if this is in fact AR500 steal, it says it will stop a .223 and 30-06. As you can see it worked perfectly. After about 300 rounds I took this picture.

Not what it seems
It says in the description cut from AR 500 USA made steel. The package I received was marked made in China, so right off I'm going to call bs! They didn't make the steel in the US, export it to China to cut and import it back. That would be wildly cost prohibitive! It's Chinese steel, Chinese made. Regardless if you want to buy American or not, don't claim things are American made when they are not.The target will work just fine for use as medium caliber pistol target, but if you are punching high cal stuff look elsewhere.Update: so I set this up at the range today and shot with my .380 acp and 9mm. Now before anybody cries, I know paint comes off when you shoot it, but they use a gloss type paint that literally comes off in big chunks when it's hit, think of how paint blisters off a car that's been hit where it breaks off in large pieces. It's so weird, why not just use a cheap spray? I use that on my 4 other metal targets and it's perfect. My issue with this is, it leaves a freaking mess of neon paint chips everywhere. As for the steel, it's fine, like any other 3/8" when shooting medium velocity bullets, but I'll avoid the mess and go back to my old target brand when I buy another.

Bang a Gong, Get it On!
We decided to upgrade our outdoor range targets so we purchased a few of these Highwild gongs (and Highwild brackets and 6" hooks.) Shipping on four 4" and one 6" was fast. All were individually boxed tightly in cardboard and came in one Amazon shipment. They were as the picture indicated and the black paint was a nice touch. So far so good.We used 3/4" EMT for the legs and crossbar, which was very stable and had no sagging with a 5' crossbar. These gongs and hooks held up well against 9mm (115 gr) and 22LR at approximately 15 yards. The 22LR would move the 4" gong, but barely budge the 6" gong. The 9mm would spin the 4" gong and frequently fall off the hooks. Chains and bolts would be better. I wouldn't call this a negative, but was definitely a learning experience on what sizes work best at that distance. The 6" gong did much better with the 9mm so we'll stick to that next time using hooks only. There was no pitting or chipped edges after many hits. The initial concern was that the edges might show more abuse due to the heat-affected zone (HAZ) from laser cutting. This was not the case at all in our conditions. Each point of impact would remove the black paint revealing the gray metal underneath. This is expected, but next time we'll bring a can of spray paint to refresh the targets and/or apply a coat at the end of the day to protect them while stored. The combination of the visible movement, paint removal, and audible ping make the experience better when compared to paper targets. The durability over paper and clay targets also resulted in less back and forth for resetting.I would recommend these gongs. I've already planned expansion for next month's outing. Just note that your mileage may vary as caliber size increases.

Withstands 30-06 @40yrds
I was concerned after seeing others stating that these plates are no good, or junk metal. However, for fun I bought a plate and mounted to a 2x4 with a bolt that has a spring in between the plate and the 2x4 (hopefully that makes sense). although the spring acts as a bit of a small shock system @40 yards with Sierra Match grade 168grain BTHP rounds it wasn't anywhere near punching a whole through this plate. I'll be buying more!

Good product
Takes shots from .556 FMJ with just minor chips in the metal. 9mm barely chips the paint on this thing and it's fantastic! Makes target shooting so much more fun and being able to hear the *ding* when my shots land make shooting so much more satisfying. I've taken it to the range a couple times and it seems like it will last a long time! Nothing quite like hitting this thing a couple times in quick succession. So far it is a great product that I would recommend. Also as a tip: get steel wire to hold it up on a post/target, I've found that zip ties and rope snap right off when hitting the plate. Rope will hold but as soon as a bullet hits the knot in the hole then you gotta replace the rope. Wire is a little harder to hit and break so it's probably a better option.

They work great and are lots of fun
The orange looks good but after the gong is hit the powder coat just comes off. It did not cost extra so no loose right. Just FYI the powder coat does come right off. ALSO it is clear in the pic that the gong hole is square, of course this could be OK if you plan to bolt & chain them. I bought the hang n hook system, and they technically do fit in the hole but then they won't hang on the pole. I did drill them so it will work and my boy can hang them up and take them down. DRILLING that is another story, AR500 is some special stuff, none of my drill bits did doodley squat. I did use a 1/2 " carbide mason bit and managed to get 4 holes drilled but destroyed my bit. Anyway all is good now I'll probably buy a couple more but will look for a gong with the round hole NOT a Square hole, they are to tight. Thanks for the fun OH my boy was shooting 22LR at about 25 yards worked perfect. I couldn't resist so I hit them my self with my glock 23 .40 cal ding ding ding ding no dents :)
