Product description CD: Royal Trux,Pound For Pound .co.uk Nine albums down the road, Royal Trux's rebel music has taken on a life of its own. On Pound For Pound, their road trip of AM radio rhythms reconfigures southern funk and piles on the percussion to concussive levels. From the opening call and response of "Call Out The Lions", the band tune into the 10-bar boogie of "Fire Hill" and "Platinum Tips" gritty funkadelica. "Deep Country Sorceror" takes a left-turn into diabolic down-home blues (with a garbled backdrop of tunnelling echo effects). The crawling pace of "Blind Navigator" is the closest they get to a ballad; senses dulled with pain, Neil Haggerty's wild man growl rages along to prozac riffs. Further down the highway, "Small Thief" comes on like a skewed Santana track and, at journey's end, "Doctor Gone" closes the album with a cocktail of Washington go-go and Cajun ju-ju rock that segues into a sprawling banishment ritual. This is one for all the voodoo children. --Chris Campion
