I loved this realistic look at life.
Felix Maritaud is a gem to be used so much more. His is a visceral world of male sex work, Leo finds himself searching for affection anywhere he can get it - whether it's the unrequited love for his hustler friend Ahd (Eric Bernard) or in the arms of an older, vulnerable client. Will Leo choose his freedom and the dangers that come with it, or the comforts of a stable relationship? This is a young man who cannot shower or bathe and who barely eats at all but still is looking for something that he may never find. I love the fact that this is so gritty and real. I love that there are no hold barred at all. I love that this story is so bare that you will feel it too and you will feel for this man and those others that are in the same position.

OVERRATED
I've had this in my cart for 2 months waiting for it to come out, and I have no idea where the #1 rated LGBT rating came from as I am only the 2nd person to review it. Nuts & Bolts: Good picture, good sound quality, soundtrack appropriate, decent acting, and attractive characters. I HATE it when somebody makes a big fuss about nudity and sex that is simply not as gratuitous as advertised. There is more full frontal than usual, but the softcores are not any more explicit than in any other "R" movie. To me this was just ANOTHER gay hustler film. A slice of life movie with no beginning and no end. I suppose there is all kind of room for pseudo intellectuals to interject all kind of meaning into this vacuum of a movie, but as a retired therapist, I can assure you there's really not much there. Oh well...

Looking for love in all the wrong places
Watch, for more than one heart-rending scene. There are many that are heart-breakingly BEAUTIFUL! I especially teared up over the scene in the "real" female dr's office, as well as the scene with the "pas de tout" not disgusting old man. Acting is excellent. Story seems true-to-life. The sex and "full-nudal frontity" are there, but it's the underlying depiction of Leo's search for love in his addiction to life-on-the-street life that makes this film work. A heart-breaking, but "true-to-life" ending. In his entire life Leo's never known anything other than one-night stands. Can't wait for "Sauvage, the Sequel."

This disc was "Region B" which won't play in most American players.
I did re-order the movie in a compatible format (DVD), and it is quite, quite good. It also includes some explicit gay sex, so let the viewer be prepared.

Excellent
It is so difficult to find high quality and effective LGBTQ themed films. This is one of them - a rare gem.

Excellent production
Very well done and acted French movie. It has an atmosphere of realism and tenderness amid all the cruelty of a gay hustler life.

Born to be Wild
Leo is a 20something sexy hustler oozing with a primal magnetism leading a chaotic life in a French suburb. He takes a greater care of his clients' [sometimes ghastly] needs than his own grave medical problems. He prefers to sleep on the sidewalk than in his shared apartment and drink from a gutter than to find a water fountain. He's filthy and sick, but also hot and in love. His aimless existence is only, and haphazardly, surpassed by his desire to be loved by the fellow handsome sex worker Ahd.By the end of this film, one may realize certain things about the principal character. He has been given no background and little power of speech. We don't know anything about his family or if he ran away from home. We don't know what is happening in his mind either. But, he's also impulsive, thrill-seeking and illiterate. He's mostly "Wild" rather than “Savage”! There are clues all along that he may be suffering from a serious mental illness. Bipolar? Borderline? Both? The film is also very sexy, with multiple frontal nudity and homoerotic scenes throughout. The story is original, well thought out and captivating. All the actors are excellent. The British DVD version has tons of extras, including explanations from the director and editor after each deleted scene as why it was not included, which I found very informative. Bravo to writer/ director Camille Vidal-Naquet for making such a film; a rarity in today's queer cinema.

Stark Realism
The main character is quite enigmatic. We are not told how he got into his present situation (selling his body to strange men) or if he finally gets out of it. What is quite clear is that he is a deeply damaged young man, desperate for love and security but unable to accept them when they are offered to him. He is like a wild animal (hence the title) living a precarious existence on the edge of civilisation. It's a beautiful but deeply disturbing film, told with stark documentary realism. The DVD also has an excellent Special Features section (which you should watch AFTER the film) with explanations by the actor, director, and other critics.

Really good, worth watching
French film with English subtitles. Good effort and well worth watching. No holds barred account of a french 22yo male rent boy but never felt pornographic and stayed true to real life. Would recommend. Not quite upto Weekend or Call Me By Your Name so just fails to get 5 stars
