Not what they used to be. Towle is cutting corners.
We received this set as a gift in 2010 and we absolutely loved it - we STILL love it after 6 years of every day use. It is the best silverware we have ever owned. It's heavy, stylish, and high quality. It wears well and we have never seen a single spot of rust. Over the years, we somehow have been losing teaspoons, so we decided to purchase this new set to replace them and add to our original set. Sadly, it's nowhere close to the quality of our original set. We were immediately disappointed with the new flatware. When I read the reviews before purchasing, I noticed some people referencing the change in quality, but figured it was worth the shot. It wasn't.The forging process Towle uses has clearly changed. None of the utensils are the same shape as our original set, but they're close enough that I would have kept them if there weren't other problems. One of the large spoons was rippled on the edge and most of the spoons had rough spots at various points around the edges - not exactly ideal when it comes to something you put in your mouth. The quality of the stainless steel isn't what it used to be. Other reviews provide many complaints of rust, but what really surprised me was the fact that every piece lighter than our original set. The teaspoons were the worst: the new ones were 20% lighter than our originals. I can identify them with my eyes closed based on the weight alone. The neck of the spoon is much slimmer, which would probably account for a decent amount of the lost weight. However, I'm guessing the rust people are complaining about is due to the 18/0 stainless steel, which has less resistance to corrosion due to the lack of nickel in the alloy. Our original set isn't marked, but I'm guessing it was 18/8 or 18/10 because we've never once seen rust on anything. Not surprisingly, 18/0 stainless steel costs less than 18/10. Towle was probably looking to save a few bucks and ended up ruining a great set of flatware. I mentioned my frustration to coworker who said he used to work for Towle. His theory was that the quality problems are probably due to the fact that they were bought out and consolidated into a larger corporation.I didn't bother using them at all because I wanted the ease of returning an unused item. And I figured we'd see rust eventually. Considering we still love our original set, I was supremely disappointed in the decline in quality. Check out the reviews on other sites and you'll find the same problems: unfinished edges, metal burrs, and rust. We'll probably end up replacing our set entirely, but certainly not with these, and probably not with Towle.TL;DR: Save yourself the trouble and find another set.

Carefully inspect for defects—injuries possible
Do you see the small shard of metal protruding from this knife? It's small—but let me assure you it's there and unfortunately I only discovered it after it was inside my hand and my blood made it into my meal. And the shard isn't a soft metal flake that can be removed. It doesn't move at all. It's hardened into place. Very painful.UPDATE: A few weeks after removing the defective knife from the set, the remainder of the knives have rusted over. I've never owned silverware that regularly rusts like this. The rust can be scrubbed off, but it comes back every time. Makes you wonder what these things are even made of...

BEWARE RUST!!!!!!
After owning these for over 6 months now, I'm noticing rust after pulling them from the dishwasher...rust. Not. Cool. At first I thought it might be food that was stuck on or something, but so many pieces of the set have it and it just has gotten worse with time. Literally ANY small surface scratch that these take then RUSTS in the dishwasher. For example, use a steak knife and the fork...accidently bump the knife against the fork, even gently, scratch. Wash. Rust. Very very disappointed by these. And I had bought two sets. Ugh. Now I'm going to have to buy all new flatware, cause I gave away my old stuff when I got these. Seriously, regret buying this.

Rust stains after first use!
Extremely disappointing. All the knives in this set showed rust stains after the first wash. This seems to be a recurrent theme whatever the brand as I had a to return a really expensive set for the exact same reason. After returning the first set which was another brand, I ordered the Towie as I have had a Towie set for years and never had any rust stains. Therefore it is clear that base materials used are just poor irrespective of the brand and there is zero quality control. Therefore am still in search for flatware that does not rust after the first use!

I love the style
I have mixed feelings on these. I bought them at the end of summer and tomorrows thanksgiving so I've had time to put them to use. I love the style, but other reviews are right. The craftsmanship is hit and miss. Some of the utensils are perfect and others are too sharp in some places or not sharp enough. For example, my knives hardly cut through anything. The ridges are nicely placed on some, but not on others. You can tell they were put in some sort of machine that just presses the indentation in. No real sharpness. My spoons on the other hand have left actual cuts inside the sides of my mouth from how sharp they are. I'm not going to buy new ones because these issues are not happening on all of them and I have had zero rusting, but next time I will buy from another company.

Cheaper, yet nicer, than our last set!
We bought an expensive set of Rose Gold plated silverware that barely lasted a couple months before the finish began to tarnish. I even take extra care with our nicer silverware, and only hand wash and hand dry! We decided to try this set next, and fresh out of the box, these already had a better feel. They're heavy, and feel rich in your hand. The knifes are very sharp for butter knifes, and their design is simple yet exquisite. We have used these multiple times already, and they've proven to hold up better than our last set! I would definitely recommend these to anyone!

Lovely Utensil Set
Nice weight, cleans well, really happy with the design. We got compliments on this set of cutlery within days of receiving them. I would highly recommend. Follow the cleaning instructions and towel dry to avoid spots on the stainless.

Beautiful
Great weight and look. Unfortunately they tarnish a bit (after a wash they seem to have brown rust looking spots on them) over all good purchase!
