I restore old planes and other wood working tools. This little square is exactly what I needed to setup some old Stanley Baileys as shooting planes. I need the mouth flat and the side and sole to be a dead on 90 degrees. I can trust that once the Starrett says its square and flat that it really is. First plane I tested after checking with this square put a reflective glassy smooth surface on red oak. This may be pricey but comes oiled up and in its own little protective case.

If want charge that price, must delivery quality.The bad.....Not square inside or outside.Blade is not fitted in center of beam.Poor quality surfaces in all ends tool.Dents inside.Glue spots in the join.If you want red colour box with logo starrett and expensive junk. That's way to go.If want need square must find in another place.O have a lot o USA made starrett tools.And the quality is another level.Or is this item fake or starrett dropped his standards to hobby level and keep pro prices.

I didn't realize Starrett has manufacturing outside of the US and it is not called out in the description so I am leaving this review.

Not that "made in China" is an automatic failure, but in this case, for $80, and Starrett, I expected more. Matched against my master reference square, it's not quite true. There is hardened, left over manufacturing goop in each corner between the blade and handle. The first response "Yes Starrett Tools are made in the USA." is incorrect, some may be, but clearly many have been moved offshore. For $20? Sure. For $80? No.

What can I say? It is expensive but perfect.

Worth the money.

Exactly everything the others aren't. Nice to rely on a tool. If this square says so I actually trust it.
