For those wondering if they have PPD
This book was recommended to me months after my PPD diagnosis, and I think I wasn't the target audience. I think this book would be better suited for someone who didn't know if they had PPD and they were trying to figure it out. early on in the process. For someone who knows they have it and has already been diagnosed, it's the same old same old. "Here's what PPD is. Here's a theory on why it occurs. Here's some things to do to stave it off/ lessen it if you have it. Here's a chapter for your husband. Here's a chapter on recovery."The only chapter that was helpful was the recovery chapter BUT I was already fully into the third stage of recovery, so the only helpful thing I found was learning about the "false recovery" stage when you first start to get better. When I went through the 2nd stage, I had a feeling it was the "false recovery", but it was nice to have that suspicion validated.Personal opinion is that you can skip this purchase and just Google.Based on the title, I was hoping for something more... sympathetic? in helping me? But again, at the time I found it, I was already in the true recovery stage, so I just really think I wasn't the target audience.

Wonderful book. After my third delivery I felt so crazy. I didn't understand all the emotions and feelings I was having. Reading this book gave me coping mechanisms and helped me recognize my thought process. I felt hopeful and could really relate to everything the author wrote about. I felt validated and completly normal. I still go back and reread the authors suggestions and tips to overcoming postpartum depression.

Seems more like labeling a normal reaction as PPD...
I think people overreact even labeling this postpartum depression. So far it just seems like its an adjustment issue and like some people think everything should just be smooth sailing in every way after having a baby. Thats just not how life is. Its ok to have some issues adjusting to having a baby. Its a big change in every way. Let yourself learn and grow and get used to it even have issues accepting it for a while. Its all normal.

Bereavement parents, midwives, doulas etc
It is an invaluable read to help parents who go through the loss of a child. It's easy to read and gives excellent suggestions on helping navigate through the path of loss through various healing techniques.I have read Karen's other books in the past that I really found this book well-written, easy to understand, and dives deeply (critically) into women's mental health. It has been one of my recommended books to mothers who want a better understanding of postpartum depression and its signs. It is more clinical versus her other more recent books but is filled with tips, "red flags," etc. It is one of the book requirements of a few certifications involved in women's mental health. It's one of my favorite go-to books for this purpose.

A great overview of PPD
I found this book very comforting and helpful while struggling with PPD and PPA. It was nothing new or revolutionary that I hadn't read somewhere else (online or another book), but it was a well-written, easy to navigate guide for anyone struggling with the disorder or caring for someone with the disorder. It definitely helped give me hope and direction in some dark times. It also led me to Postpatum Depression International - a great site that recommended a therapist in my area. She was fantastic and had actually struggled with PPD herself (and overcame it) which was so comforting to me. She then recommended this book! It was a PPD full circle :) As you can see, I can smile now and feel 100% better at 7 months postpartum. This book really helped me get there.

A must for anyone suffering from PPD
This book may have quite literally saved my life. I was in denial for a long, long time about the PPD and PPA I was suffering with. Seeing the words written on paper that confirmed I was suffering from a real illness, with real symptoms gave me the courage to make the call to my OB. The information on different medications and which we're considered safe for breastfeeding was also very helpful. A very detailed, comprehensive book and an important tool to have as part of the treatment process.
