I want to be able to so covered earrings but i will then stick earring post to the back. Can this work for that?

you would need to cut off the shank, used to sew the button on to clothing or upholstery, but yes it should work for earrings

will it handle heavier upholstry fabric?

We used it with heavy outdoor fabric and it works great.

Will these accommodate wool?

Yes. I used this kit with upholstery fabric. No problem.
