Fantastic investment, already paying dividends.
LOVE this book. Fantastic investment that will pay dividends for a long time. If you are the type of person who has a great many interests and you beat yourself up because you jump around from thing to thing or just can't decide where to focus, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. I'm amazed at how insightful Ms. Sher is on this topic--she identifies a person like this generally as a "scanner" but there are several different types of scanners. You will read the descriptions and practically jump up and down and say "That's so me!" In my case, while I identified with one type of scanner in particular, I saw parts of myself in each one. Additionally, I found this book invaluable for examining my life and beginning to brainstorm some things I could do different. It's already paying dividends.BTW, this book isn't just about careers, though that's part of it. Sometimes those of us interested in many hobbies need help pinpointing where we are & how to maximize our interests. For me personally, I want to move forward with career change based on what I learned but I also have a million different hobbies as well. Run, don't walk to Amazon and get yourself a copy. If you are what is described as a scanner, you will found you have "come home."

It's ok to avoid the cookie-cutter life... keep molding yourself!
Firstly, this book is the type where you read the first portion to help get to know yourself, and then you can just read the remaining sections that apply to you. So if you don't get through whole books easily, you don't have to.It was helpful to me because it helped organize myself... not like de-clutter necessarily, but it validated my need to have things around at easy reach, and that I don't need to feel like a failure when I don't *complete* something. For some of us our minds need to explore, or prove we can do something to a certain level, or just get our feet wet, or whatever it is you "get out of it". It's not WRONG to not pick one thing and devote your life to it like society says. That's just how *some* people are, while others of us get our satisfaction and needs met in other ways. If you're tired of hearing "when are you going to get a real job?" or settle down, or "oh, you quit__(insert hobby or job here)__, huh?" and you feel guilty for not sticking with things, you NEED this book. It will pat you on the head and tell you there's nothing wrong with you and give you confidence and tools to work with your personality style the best you can. And it's not just feel-good, it helps you get to know yourself and gives you concrete ideas of how to get along better in a world where everything is supposed to be cookie-cutter and you're not a stiff gingerbread man, lol, you want to be moldable dough that will never be baked into one shape forever! :-D

I learned a lot about myself - interesting book!
I learned a lot about myself from this book. I bought it to learn some time management techniques which I did and much more. After all these years I understand myself much better and it helped me see my life from a new perspective. As for the book itself, it could have used a bit of editing, fewer stories of people that illustrated the point the author was making. I got a lot more out of the second part of the book than the first. After a while I was able to tell what parts didn't apply to me and apply the 3 S's: skim, scan, and skip. But overall a very worthwhile book.

Finally! I feel understood, validated and liberated to be who I am!
This is the best book I've read in a very long time. Once I read the first page I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in about 24 hrs straight through (with a 3 hour nap in the middle). I couldn't take it all in fast enough. It felt as though my brain was re-wiring itself as I read. Barbara absolutely gets what it's like to be a renaissance woman of many interests, passions and new ideas and she gives her readers not just the permission but the full support, blessing and encouragement to embrace our multi-tasking, idea generating, always creating, easily bored minds and to do a celebratory dance around our newfound interests. She empowers you with a loaded arsenal of applicable, super practical real world tools, steps and ideas for how to harness and actualize the potential in your ideas and actually put them on the runway of action by engaging with those ideas through a variety of means...from mere sampling to full mastery. I've recommended this book to about 5 or 6 people since I started reading it yesterday. If you're a Jack/Jane of all trades and find yourself insatiably curious and always starting projects you find yourself quickly bored with and abandoning you absolutely must read this book. It will profoundly change the way you understand your inner dreamer/idea generator.

Buen libro
Excelente libro, mi única queja sería que es muy largo, se supone que es para personas que hacen muchas cosas y se aburren rápido de algo, sólo tomé lo que necesitaba y me fue imposible terminar de lee…

Life Changing
All my life I have felt paralized when faced with choises, but that changed as soon as I started reading this book. With just a simple shift on how to look at yourself and understanding how you are wired you can have a radical change on your behavior! Incredible!

Identify who you are...before you break.
This book covers a wide range of personalities who fit into the category called Scanners. Are you tired of reading Self-help and motivation books? Aren't you convinced of the their techniques? You feel different from the people around you? Have you ever felt or heard others telling that 'you lack focus' ? Then this book is for you. Barbara Sher introduces you to a new world, where everything you wish for is possible. Welcome to the world of scanners.
