One on the last games i bought for the Sega Saturn
I remember buying this game back in the fall of 1998. By then the sega saturn was dead as Sega had announced the dreamcast was coming out soon. One of the stores had a bunch of Saturn games on sale and this one caught my eye as i was a really fan of the Strike-Series from the 16 bit era.I remember paying what was the equivalent of $30 today brand new and sealed in 1998.I really liked this game it's fun and brings back a lot of nostalgia. I have a memory cart backup but this game also supports passwords which is a nice feature just in case your Sega Saturn battery runs out (WHY SEGA WHY!!!!)There are only 5 levels but each one is very long and if i may say a little hard. But with a little strategy and patience you wont have much problems. I remember finishing this game over the course of a few months. The graphics have not aged that well in this age of HIGH DEFINITION...but considering this game is from 1997, most 3D shooters from those days haven't aged that well either, with a few exceptions. Starfox 64.....But that doesn't mean the game is unplayable, far from it, if you can look past the graphics this game is really gem.As far as the sounds go they do the job as one would expect; explosions and gun shots are good enough. I enjoy the tunes during the game play and it suites the atmosphere during the missions. Some of you might find the one liners when you shoot an enemy cheesy; but i was laughing because i had forgotten them over the years. One of the most interesting aspects of the game that i found was if you plug in a different control such as the Sega 3d controller3D Controller for Sega Saturn video game system or the Sega mission stickMission Stick. The game will actually recognize the controllers and will open further control style in the options screen.I never knew this back then until i read the manual this time round and tried it with the 3d controller.I guess the Saturn really was a great machine in some aspects......for me i still find it a shame it never really took off with the exception over in Japan. This game was released recently on the PSN Network but that version is a port/emulation of the PS1 version which some may say is and inferior version. The only major and obvious differences (FOR ME) between the PS1 and Saturn is that the Saturn has wingtip weapons (Sidewinders) and other weapons that attached via the winch.Keep in mind that the Saturn version came out a year after the ps1 did.So if your are a fan of the strike series i can recommend this game.Just don't pay a lot for it even if you are a collector !I bought it this time (2011) for $15 with shipping and complete, scratch free with the manual.

The Cold War, the KGB, Pres. Clinton, and a disgraced Soviet scientist, WOW, what a game!!!!
Soviet Strike was first seen on the PS1, a year later Electronic Arts ported it to the Sega Saturn, and boy am I glad they did. The Saturn version featured a number of cool changes: an easy option, which gives the player twice the firepower and slower fuel consumption, adjustable brightness, two hidden powerful weapons, extra sound F/X, better graphics, and it was compatible with the Sega analog controller, and flight stick. I've also used my fighter stick, and it works great too! Soviet Strike is a helicopter-based shooter, that is reminiscent of Mass Destruction. ( I love that game too ) You pilot an Apache helicopter and you battle the forces of Uri ( Shadowman )Vatsiznov ( oooooh ) a former KGB Chairman that wants to bring back the former glory days of mother Russia. He's in league with the Dictator Sadissa Savak, and a disgraced Soviet scientist. Dr. Grymyenko Ukrainian. You belong to STRIKE, a covert operations force of the U.S. military, and your boss is General Earle. There's also many other characters in this game, ( even Pres. Bill Clinton ) and it makes good use of the full motion video. ( the acting is better than most, but still cheesy ) Soviet Strike is an isometric overhead shooter that has graphics that still look good even today. There are five large levels, each divided into several missions. The enemy has a very sophisticated artificial intelligence going for it, and it makes the game very realistic and at times very difficult. The game boasts real satellite topography imposed on to the polygonal maps making the game very realistic and beautiful to look at. It moves along at a smooth 60 fps, and the voice overs are cheesy as hell. ( but I like cheesy ) The game is played from Moscow to the Caspian sea, from Eastern Europe and all points in between. Your armed to the teeth with machine guns, hydra rockets, hellfire missiles, and the new ( for the SS ) double machine guns, and maverick missiles. There is so much going for this game there is no way to say it all. Soviet Strike is a deep, fun, and great looking game that every SS collector should own. " Happy Flying! "
