An Introduction to Western Medical Acupuncture 1st Edition

With a much needed emphasis on the western scientific background, (and justification) for acupuncture, this helps to fill a void. While many will feel like they need more in-depth anatomical review than is offered, the emphasis on the neurobiological/neurophysiological basis for the effects seen with acupuncture provides an understanding that many trained in western human and veterinary medicine will find invaluable. The book is written in a highly readable format. I especially appreciate the discussion of current standing of acupuncture in the peer-reviewed literature and where it has proven a valid (or even superior) choice over other medical or surgical treatment modalities.

At a time when all too many are willing to follow a guru into a belief-system based approach, i.e., TCM, and abandon their scientific education, this book antidotes the prevailing fascination with myths and metaphors by providing fact-based, straightforward instruction.I applaud Drs. White, Cummings, and Filshie in their publication of a clinically meaningful text packed with legitimate information that medical professionals should be expected to understand if they are going to advertise themselves as acupuncturists.

Loved the diagrams in the back- quick reference, laminated cards to use when you just need a quick look. Those were worth the price alone.

Salient and well written.

This is an excellent book for newcomers to acupuncture. I used it during my AACP training and it covers all the basic theories and treatments. Would recommend.

This is a very useful book. It contains sturdy, pull-out, colour cards of common needling points. Handy quick crib sheets.

This book is my companion, with helpful points charts, accessible, research evidence, helpful hints. Etc. I am very pleased I purchased it.
