Horrible Histories Barmy British Empire Paperback – February 2, 2017

My twin, 13 year old boys adore all of the Horrible History books. I wish there were more!

My almost 11 year old son-LOVES this series! These are the books he asked for Xmas this year and hasn't put them down yet! Lots of great history details.

Kids loved them

All the points made in this book are accurate and I can only laugh at the 2 poor reviews given to this book by obviously outraged Brits who don't have any idea of how truly horrible their Empire was. On an absolute scale, the Empire did more damage to more people than the Nazis. It was infinitely more evil about time someone portrayed it correctly

I have never been so taken with a history book before. Hundreds of unknown, to me, facts about the "Barmy British" They were just as bad as the Nazi Germany. But of course the English had better press.

Big fan of the "Horrible Histories" series and love Martin as an illustrator; but sorry, this one is just junk.

I bought this book for my sons year 8 school project, set for him during the Covid-19 lockdown. I started reading the various chapters and was appalled at the politically correct sentiment, applying standards of today to what happened 400 years ago. Oh aren’t we British such a dreadful breed, let’s chastise ourselves. Never mind what the Romans did, Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany, Ghengis Khan and the mongols. One could name so many, conquering imperialists throughout history. I wonder how many of those countries are allowing their statues to be dunked in the river? No surprise though that the overly apologetic and left leaning BBC, runs this series, for their kids channel. Brain washing children with half facts and emphasising all the negative aspects of the British Empire. Well straight in the recycling bin, glad I didn’t pay full price.

honest and funny. i think it isnt anti british at all.it is just telling the truth.very good read. can be good for adults aswell

great book. Funny and interesting. My 8 year old loved it. It isn’t anti-British, just anti-Empire.

Schönes Buch, top Zustand, jedoch ist die Qualität des bedruckten Papiers mangelhaft. Für den Preis aber voll ok. Und inhaltlich sehr humorvoll, minimalistisch illustriert. Macht Spaß zu lesen.

I think this is a great book, my parents and grand parents lived through some of the facts written in the book, it is brutally honest and educational, I feel it helps teach us to respect the past and not try and airbrush the parts of our history or heritage we do not like. History is there for us to learn from, it should teach us respect for everything the people from the colonies or the slave trade have offered to make Briatain so Great, we should all be grateful top those races who were taken from their homes and families to be brought to England to build our amazing cities and palaces that we enjoy today. Embrace, Remember and Respect!
