encouraging for early independent poetry writers
I really enjoyed this book as did my class. They are 3rd class aged between 8 and 9 years. To date we have being looking and respondng to other people's poetry and making whole class poetry. I used this book as a stimulum for inspiring independent writing. I played it while they were dong an art activity. They really enjoyed the author speaking to them and as planned, they started bringing in their own poems the next day without me askiing them to. This was a perfect set up, leading us nicely into poetry writing class, which is coming along nicely. So thank you. Margaret O' Leary.

I love this book and so my first graders!
My Hippo Has the Hiccups is full of hilarious poems! They make my students laugh out loud and inspire them to write their own silly poetry. My boys especially love them. This books has empowered my boys to be poets! They love the gross or weird poems and then are excited to write their own. It can be challenging to get boys to write and this book is a big help.I also love the CD. During the month of April (poetry month) we listen to Kenn Nesbit read a poem each morning. It starts us off with giggles and motivates us to write our own funny poems. I highly recommend it!

Kids love it!
I purchased this book after using several of Ken Nesbitt's poems with my reading groups. I had obtained those poems from his website, poetry4kids.com. It's a great website, by the way. I also had a poetry day for my students, and checked out a bunch of children's poetry books from the library. I brought this book, and another one from my own collection, and this one was in their top 3 picks.

So much fun and great for teaching.
Love the book and the author. He has a great website to support his work. If you are a teacher, you will love these books. I just loved reading this one for myself.

My son asks for this one frequently
My son (age 4) asks for this one frequently. Its poems have that great bouncy rhythm that makes them fun to read, and to listen too even when little ones don't know just what they mean. Love the puns and wordplay and the humorous line art throughout. This is a book you will enjoy reading to your kids, and that they will enjoy listening to until able to read it on their own.

great book for children
I Love Kenn Nesbitt, I use his poems in my classes with my pupils so that they can learn how to sudy poetry with funny poems. The book is excellent and the CD allows us to make sure the pronunciation is correct. I advise this book to English teacher who work with juniors. A great experience!

Fun and Creative Poetry
This book of poetry is fun and very creative. I enjoy reading it to my 5 year old grandson. Some poems seem to encourage disrespect towards authority figures, which I personally did not like. Other than that, I can heartily recommend this book to others.

Great Poetry for Boys
This great book of peoms from witty rhymster, Kenn Nesbitt, is a worthwhile addition to any shelf of poetry books for children, especially for ages 8 and up. This writer has become very popular with my son's year at school (Year 4), particularly with the boys. His verses are rhythmic and amusing, with some great punch lines, but can also be thought-provoking and form the basis of interesting discussions. Beacuse the poet is from the U.S., his well-scanned rhymes don't always work in received pronunciation English and obviously there are American items of vocabulary and spellings; but again all thses factors can make interesting topics to discuss with children. The CD not only has many of the poems read by the author, but includes some poetry wriing tips. My 9-year-old says this book is "joyful, delightful and interesting. The CD was fascinating". It has inspired him to write more poetry himself and has really made him giggle.

Missing audio cd
Sadly, the book came without the audio cd, very very disappointed. There was no mention in the order that the cd was missing.

Christmas spoiler in this "children's" poetry book
I bought this product for my six-year-old son who hates poetry, but had to recite one at school for homework. I bought this as I thought it may have something in it which appealed to his sense of humour. However, despite marketing it at the children's market, the author includes a poem which spoils the magic of Christmas ("my sister thinks she's santa" or something). I don't want to say too much, but if you are lucky enough to have a child who loves the magic of Christmas, avoid this book like the plague. He was really upset hearing it on the audio CD that came with it, and we had to think fast and try and come up with explanations for the final line. As for the rest of the book, the poems aren't that good in my opinion either, try Roald Dahl or Spike Milligan!
