Saved our tile job! (Includes tips for application and cleaning)
We just installed some wood-grained porcelain tile in out master bath. My husband got too much water in the grout when he was cleaning the tile and the grout turned white. I was just sick about it and was afraid that we would have to saw the grout out and try again. I began to research and came across this brand of stain/sealer. I was too nervous to buy it online so I went to a big box store and bought their brand. What a mess! Not only was the color wrong, it was a nightmare to apply and clean. I spend all day working on it and it still didn't look good. A few days later, I realized that I couldn't live with it so I came out to Amazon and purchase this one, praying that the color search matched the actual product. It did! And in comparison, it was a dream to apply. A lot of people tell you to use the cheap kids watercolor brushes. I tried and abandoned them because the hairs went all over and created a mess. I finally used one of my good art brushes. It was the right width and was firm enough (but not too firm) and it worked great. Not too much clean up. But here is the BIG secret. We stumbled on it accidentally and it changed everything. Apply the stain and then wait a bit for it to dry. Then clean the edges of the tile with a - get this - cheap plastic picnic knife. It should have a flat top edge. I'm uploading pictures of it so you can see what I mean. Use a damp - almost dry - paper towel, if necessary, to soften up the stain before you swip the edges with the knife. You'll get a sharp, clean edge with almost no trouble. And better yet, if you realized that you missed some spots days later, it still works. Soften the stain along the edge with a slightly damp paper towel then clean up the edge with the plastic knife. Try not to gouge the stain with the knife, but if you do, it's not a problem. Just repaint that area and clean again. Tip: after you are finished, look for spots you missed by working the opposite direction you went the first time through. The angle change is important. And don't worry about doing this step. It's not hard or time consuming. If you used the plastic knife to clean the edges, you won't be afraid because It's quick work. One of the photos I'm including shows the job in progress. One last thing. If you do this over a few days, the spout might dry up and get plugged. Use a safety pin (straighten it first) to clean it out. Take off the lid and run water through it as you jab the pin in and out of the hole from both sides. it works great. As a reminder: I have porcelain tile. I can't speak to how this method would work with other materials.

I cannot believe this stuff worked so well.
I thoroughly scrubbed all of the grout in my disgusting kitchen (I bought it this way), before realizing that most of the grout stains weren't going anywhere. I tried every tool and chemical in my arsenal. My husband wanted to replace all of the grout (we have a huge kitchen). This was my last effort at saving the grout. I was meticulously working with a small artist paint brush, while my husband went to work slopping it on with a foam brush and wiping off what got all over the porcelain tiles. His way was much faster and very effective. It went on evenly and seems to soak in like stain rather than sit on the surface like a paint. I don't know how this would work over properly sealed grout that you just want to change the color of. This grout was apparently never sealed, so it soaked right in. It's been a couple months with a dog, spills, and many moppings, and it still looks perfect. Wine even spilled, and wasn't noticed for a day or two, and it wiped right up. I'm very pleased!

Covered black grout
I had the bag of grout so I knew what color I needed. I just moved into a new house and for some reason the previous owners used black grout paint around one tile. I guess to match the dirty grout?! This painted nicely over the black and it looks normal again.

Great except for incorrect color
colors do not match as advertised. started with what was supposed to be off white / cream color that ended up being bright white. had to buy a second bottle that was a beige color, then blend the two to get the color that I originally wanted.

Wonder product
I was first told about this by a tile company 25 years ago. Have used it on 3 houses since then. It’s like paint for grout. Very easy and forgiving to apply, lasts for years. Makes cleaning grout sooooo much easier.

Works great
Once applied the finished product looks fantastic, like a new grout job. Works great even on heavy stains. The trick is in the proper application of it. I tried two methods, both using a small brush. First method (as suggested by the manufacturer) was to spread the solution on the grout with a small brush with traces left on the edges of the tiles, let it sit for about an hour and then spray it with a mist of water and after 5 minutes clean up the solution from the tiles. This worked fine most of the time but on occasion while cleaning the stain from the tiles some of it would also be removed from the grout. So in order to fix that I had to carefully apply a small amount with a small brush again just on the grout. The second method was to apply and immediately clean the tiles leaving the stain only on the grout. This one took more time and was somewhat messy, but I did not have to spend the time later on cleaning the tiles and making corrections where needed. I believe that either method took about the same amount of time to finish the job.

Didn't work well at all
Followed directions and was so disappointed. The product did not work in some places, and 'peeled' off areas of grout, leaving the original off-white and dirty color of the grout. It looks really bad. Not sure what to do now. Try to fix it by re-using the same product? Probably go that route and see what happens.

This works well
This is an amazing product! There was a mixup on the color of grout that was used on a 450 sq foot tile job. My fault, but the grout looked awful with the beautiful new tile. This product saved the day. It is a little labor intensive, it took me about 5 hours to do the 450 sq feet. I broke it up into five one hour sessions to make it easier on my old bones. We’re going to buy more and redo the older looking grout in the other areas of our home.
