A bit like dried cheap pear slices crusted in sugar. Meh.
Western gooseberries are tart round berries about 2/3" in diameter. Some cultures call the kiwi fruit a gooseberry of some sort. Well, why not.Apparently India has their own fruit that they call a gooseberry. I have no idea what it tastes like, because these dried and sugar-soaked segments of that fruit are unidentifiable and bland.Well, maybe it's a bit like a pear, then, but I *like* pears.I tried eating them as is, cutting them up and putting them in oatmeal, and now I'm trying soaking them in brandy. Thus far? Skip these. Any other sort of dried fruit would be more delicious and probably more healthful.I regret this purchase.

Not candy
OK, so I know these are coming from far away, and they are what they say they are. But let's be clear: They are NOT candy. The fruit were almost stale by the time they got here, and they taste is definitely acquired. Instead of just eating them out of the bag, I've been putting them in tea or in smoothies. Much better that way.

edible medicine = awesome
Iโm eating amla for phytonutrients, not flavor. I refuse sugars in dried fruit EXCEPT for bitter/ sour types (ie, cranberries & amla). Without the sugar itโd be unpalatable (to American tastebuds). With the sugar it is, yes, boring pear-like = edible = awesome!!! But it has to be approached as edible medicine, not competition for candy bars.
