Guyot Designs SplashGuard-Universal

This is very basic. It's a silicone splash guard. Fits into standard water bottles like Nalgene liter bottles. It is a soft, flexible silicone that you can bend with your fingers. Slots into place and stays there — but since it's flexible, you can push it down or reposition it if you want to. It is not going to fall out of place with normal movement of the water bottle, or even shaking (unless maybe if you shake it very aggressively and continuously). There is an air vent on one side and the drinking aperture on the other. It prevents water from splashing you in the face. Not much else to say — it does the job. Would buy again (and I have).

I have to admit, I didn't expect much from a small piece of plastic, and I wasn't really sure what it was for; but I thought what the heck- Ill give it a try.I bought this to go with our Nalgene 48oz Tritan Bottle. It fits perfect. It sits just inside the mouth opening perfectly. It doesn't fall in or out, but its easily removed for washing. Its dishwasher safe.The whole idea of this is to pack your Nalgene with ice, take a drink, and avoid getting a face full of ice. It does its job perfectly. Its easy to drink through, in fact I prefer having it in then not.Look, just buy it. Its cheap, high quality, it will last forever, and if you like ice, you can't live without this.***************************UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2012***************************I wrote my original review on this product in December 2010. I've now owned this product for a total of 1 year, 9 months.This splashguard fits in all of our 32oz to 48oz Nalgene containers. It still fits, operates and looks as good as the day I received it. In the summer I tend to want to gulp water. And being an impatient person when wanting to drink, I can be a bit sloppy. I use the Nalgene bottle, 32oz/1 liter, wide mouth. So now instead of water or tea splashing on my chest, this makes drinking controlled. I don’t need to remove this when refilling the bottle. And while I don’t use ice, I suspect it would hold back the cubes so you don’t have to kinda drink AND kinda push the ice cubes outta the way at the same time. So for the sloppy amongst us or those who need a smaller opening to drink, dees are dem!

Fits in the nalgene bottle well and prevents splashing while drinking. The cute design makes me smile every time I use my water bottle.

While it works great and fits nice and snug in my 32oz nalgene bottle, it's not the color shown in the photos. The "clean air" image shows a pale blue splash guard but what I received is very much a white splash guard. Not the end of the world but also not the color I wanted or ordered.

We love these splashguards - we have several that we've used for years for our 32oz wide-mouth Nalgene bottles, and our 24oz Camelbak bottles. They make drinking out of the bottles so much easier than without. Yes, you have to be a bit careful putting them in (push too hard, and it'll be at the bottom of the bottle), but even my five-year-old figured out how to do it without major issue when he was four. They're also really easy to wash, as you can put them in the top rack of the dishwasher with your water bottles (just hook the loop looking part over one of the prongs on the rack), or wash it by hand.So recently, when I decided to replace the drink containers in lunchboxes with 16oz wide-mouth Nalgene bottles, I bought more of these. After all, it does say "Universal" and that it fits most wide-mouth bottles, right? And Nalgene calls those 16oz wide-mouth bottles "wide-mouth" after all. However, much to my slight annoyance, they don't fit he 16oz wide-mouth Nalgene bottles. Yes, Nalgene calls them wide-mouth, and they are technically wider than a narrow-mouth water bottle, but they aren't as wide as the other "wide-mouth" bottles that Nalgene makes. Which makes these too large for those bottles. So if you're thinking of using these for the 16oz "wide-mouth" bottles, don't make the same mistake as me - look elsewhere. (There is a mini size which says it's supposed to fit the bottles, SPLASHGUARD MINI BLUE, but I haven't actually tried it yet myself.) If you've got the larger bottles, go for these, as they're fabulous.

This is a great insert for wide-mouthed Nalgene bottles. It functions well. Yet, I have come to value more that is always makes me smile. That's an important lift on those cruddy days hiking in woods and mountains. For example, those drenching rainy days, when the world seems gray and against you. I open my water bottle and see this bright little smiling image, and makes me smile too. To recall with joy the good in the world and the reason I am out in nature. While these are a bit expensive for what they are (a piece of molded plastic), I still give them to many friends and young people. I hope they experience similar joy too.
