The Homesman [Blu-ray] [2014]

'The Holiday' is one of the films I love to watch whenever I feel the need for some cheering up. It has so many scenes that just make me smile or chuckle out loud that I find I soon forget whatever was getting me down. Who can not but smile at Kate Winslet's reaction when first exploring the house where she is staying in Los Angeles, or Cameron Diaz navigating a snowy lane in England wearing high heeled shoes and dragging a suitcase, or her driving a mini on the 'wrong' side of the road? I even enjoy noticing some of the unintentional continuity weaknesses in the film such as the variability of the snowy conditions in the scenes set in England (which are even more variable than what we would normally expect from the English climate! ).Another factor that makes this film so appealing and uplifting has to be the music, from the melodic score by Hans Zimmer and the wide range of individual hit songs (or snippets of hit songs) that pepper the film by such artists as James Taylor & Aretha Franklin (to name just a couple).While the film has a terrific cast of actors, the stand out actor for me is Eli Wallach, whose performance as an elderly retired screen writer is beautifully understated and endearing.So, if you have never seen this film and you are someone who enjoys romantic comedies, then my advice would be to watch it now (rather than waiting for Christmas to watch it), and if you have seen it before then why not give it another viewing and let it provide you with a couple of hours of lighthearted humour and romance.

Why this film is so entertaining and has so many feelgood factors, but, every time I play it I have a feeling of well being and relaxation. My copy was the Blu-Ray D V D which incidentally has no resume feature but the picture and sound quality is very good, I hope to enjoy many more festive seasons with this film.

The Holiday is a great romantic comedy set in two locations; Surrey, England and L.A, USA. When Amanda (Cameron Diaz) breaks up with her cheating boyfriend, she decides she needs to get away from it all so she searches online for 'vaction hotspots'. While trawling through the internet, she comes across a House Exchange, where she meets Iris, a writer for the Times who also wants to get away from it all. The two decide to swap houses for two weeks, so Iris jets off to L.A while Amanda is stuck in Snowy Surrey (albeit fake snow, and rather recognisable fake snow at that).The film is full of laughs, and all the actors involved put up a good performance. Despite half the movie being set in the snow, it manages to help you forget about your own snow trouble you're currently suffering through. For me personally though, I would have loved to have seen a movie just about Iris' time in L.A.All in all a definite must have in your movie collection.

The Homesman is bleak and at times unforgiving. The storyline is quite unusual with some rather unexpected detours.Swank and Jones are particularly good in the leading roles. Lovely filmed, The Homesman comes recommended.Supplements:- Origins (1080p; 21:25) deals with elements like fashioning the screenplay and offers some decent interviews.- Shooting the Film (1080p; 27:13) looks at some of the rigors of shooting the film on location (actually, more than one location).- Beyond the Western (1080p; 11:45) details the efforts of this film to push the genre boundaries of the western.

TLJ: Awesome acting. He is so saturated in his role and plays it so well. It is a sad film, and a strange sorry but one I would think happened many times. Brief appearances from various well known actors and actresses. Really recommend. Loved it, and for someone who is a Action and Scifi Junky... need i say more.

I bought the dvd because I had missed the film the last 2 years, no excuse now. very quick delivery, well packed.

When i watched it for the first time, i thought that it was quite good and bought it with some money from my dads friend at Christmas time. It didn't take too long to come and was good value for money.

This is a really great movie to watch at Christmas, it is a romantic comedy with quite a lot of well known actors\actresses that really make it.I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend
