Vegan Natural Choice
Vegan. Natural. Low calorie. Low fat. Thick & hearty for an instant soup. Great lentil veggie taste. Easy, lightweight take-along for anywhere you can get or make hot water. I love vegan soups. An instant soup along with a few pieces of crispbread in a ziplock bag makes a great lunch. Instant soups are also a great flavor maker for your own soup creations. Try using one cup of instant soup as a flavorful broth or base to add with beans and/or your favorite fresh veggies. Use your imagination and enjoy. Easy and fun. Prepare the instant soup and then add to the simmering or pre-cooked bigger pot containing the other ingredients. Heat together, stir, and serve. 170 calories, 11g protein, and 540mg sodium per cup. When preparing the cup of soup, it is important to let it stand re-covered as recommended for 5+ minutes and stir well. Verified all vegan ingredients including the 'natural flavors' with Nile Spice Consumer Affairs on 2009-01-29. [Inquired about all their instant soups as to which were vegan.] Also really like Nile Spice Minestrone Soup, Low Fat, 1.5-Ounce Cups (Pack of 12). ... tried a powdered pea soup at my supermarket and loved it. Unfortunately they tend not to keep it ...
Recently I tried a powdered pea soup at my supermarket and loved it. Unfortunately they tend not to keep it in stock so I looked online for one I could order and ended up ordering a package of these. You would think that you can't screw up pea soup any more than you can screw up boiling water, but Nile Spice somehow managed that feat. The soup is, for the most part, very bland. But the worst part is they decided to add chunks of carrots. Now, I know you're thinking, "But, carrots go in pea soup, whats wrong with that?"What's wrong with that is carrots do NOT go well in dehydrated soups. Even giving twice the allotted 5 minute soak, you still end up with only partially hydrated pieces of carrot jerky in the soup. They are both too big to ignore, and too small to simply pick them out. The soup is, because of that, inedible. There is no smooth texture, or soft vegetable pieces. Just pea soup with chunks of carrot with the consistency of wet toothpicks - and not just some, but tons of them in every spoonful. After trying 2 of these the rest were sent back to Mother Earth via the local dump.

Terrible texture and so-so flavor...
Ever eaten grit? Not 'grits' but road grit? I have tasted it, unfortunately, and this stuff reminded me of my awful experience. The flavor does not offend, but is nothing to get excited about either. Not recommended.

Okay at best.
So, this product was purchased in my ongoing quest to make healthier choices for foods to eat on work days.I adore lentils and am a fan of curry flavors, so I thought this would be a good fit. It also has 200 calories per cup. It's actually pretty tasty IF you manage to prepare it properly, but that's the catch- It overflows easily if microwaved. It takes a long time for the lentils and curry to absorb properly so you don't end up with a weird, crunchy bugs and sand texture. The flavor is a nice, subtle curry. Not spicy, which is frustrating because I am a spicy lover and I keep buying foods on amazon with a curry flavor which don't turn out to have the spicier, face melting curry flavor I'm hoping for. This product makes a very nice soup starter if you want to add some veggies and hot sauce and cook it on the stove. But as a quick meal to prepare and eat on your lunch break, it's kind of fail.

Like cheating on a diet, but great, tasty and healthy.
My first time ordering this flavor and I must admit it is pretty exceptional. Not too salty (and not salt free either). Curry taste is not at all overwhelming and I felt there was a perfect balance of flavors here, so that at lunch time is not as boring as the normal routine. Consistency is somewhere between a clear soup and say oatmeal, meaning you get some substance with each spoonful. I find hot soups are a great way to fill up, feel full and satisfied. The lentils and couscous are a good balance. Will order again.

Filling, tasty, and easy to make
I purchased a case of these Nile Spice Lentil Soups to keep in my office for quick lunches. I was very pleased with them overall. Making the soup is simple; I boiled water in my microwave in a glass measuring cup, added the water to the soup container, and then let it sit covered for five minutes. The soup is thick and tasty. I really like lentil soup, so this flavor hit the spot for me. It has a mild spicy flavor courtesy of the turmeric - I often added a bit of hot sauce to pump up the heat a bit. It may be a bit thick for some people, but you can always add more water to make it thinner. The soup has been pureed, which may not appeal to some eaters. However, it also is very very filling, especially considering that the entire container is only 170 calories. As is the case with most packaged soup, it is relatively high in sodium - a serving contains 540 mgs, which is almost 1/4 of the recommended daily intake. So these are not the best option for someone on a low sodium diet. The soup does not taste particularly salty, although I did find that I enjoyed it more when I paired it with fresh vegetables and fruit. For me, these worked as a fast, filling lunch.
