ONE OF THE BEST CRITICAL CARE TEXTS AVAILABLE... Must Have...
Nothing less than Brilliance... Paul Marik is a giant in his field and his ability to connect with the reader through his conversational style of writing makes for easy and superb reading. This man has influenced greatly the way I now look at any evidence and the humility of recognizing that we must question and think logically. EXCELLENT TEXT... must have for the discerning clinician...

Easy to read!
Easy to read and great facts. I keep it in my office and will grab it as a a quick reference while admitting patients or when taking cross-cover and hearing about diagnoses that I am not 100% familiar with! I would definitely suggest adding it to your references!!

It's Okay
P E Marik is obviously a very solid academician of Critical Care--we are fortunate. But for this text there is a choppy use of the 'Evidence Base'; although the chapters are impressively cited the evidence is rather screwed toward a personal perspective on critical care in this single authored text. His absolutisms are ultimately detrimental to the students of critical care--his pedagogy is risky and countervenes his own desire that students of the 21st century will be able to 'learn, unlearn, and relearn'. Now Dr. Marik is a proponent of thiamine and Vitamin C, but there is a distinct absence of such discussion on Vitamin Deficiencies and Supplementation in this 2015 edition despite the evidence of the time. There was one paragraph on LVAD's. This is a solid textbook to introduce readers to controversies in critical care. I would highly recommend it to residents with an interest in Critical Care.

Worth every penny. If only 10% of medical books were half as good, we would be much better doctors
100% agree with the review by Andy S. This is my favorite critical care book and author, every time I want a refresher. While I don't always agree with his personal opinions, or the interpretations of certain studies, overall this book is worth every penny. It's the very rare kind of medical book you won't be able to put down. It reads more like a novel, while being evidence-based.If only it were still as cheap as the previous edition used to be ($50-60)...

I enjoy his interviews and articles and looked forward to reading ...
While disagreeing with Dr. Marik's opinions on occasion, I enjoy his interviews and articles and looked forward to reading his text, after discovering this to be a brand-new edition. I was more than a little vexed when I began reading it, however. This book has no evidence of ever being edited. It is rife with typographical errors, punctuation errors, and basic spelling errors. (A representative but sadly not rare example can be found on page 27, final paragraph: "Such an approach is a useful exercise for medial students..." I assume that the author means "medical students".) Every page is filled with such errors, to the point of being distracting.I cannot blame Dr. Marik for this. I know that every writer makes errors when typing. I do blame Springer for taking raw text from his word processor and simply printing it without review or comment. And if no one edited this manuscript for grammar and spelling, then I must assume that no one edited it for content either. There was no editorial review of his references, no review of any accidental factual errors, or anything that would make this a reliable reference. Dr. Marik is a giant of our field, and I still look forward to reading a text by him. If Springer decides to actually edit this book, please let me know so that I can buy it.
