Altrazeal is an innovative, transforming powder dressing used in the treatment of mild to moderately exuding surgical, acute and chronic wounds. Its granules aggregate on hydration with saline to form a moist, oxygen permeable skin-like barrier that helps manage exudate and prevents exogenous bacteria from entering the wound bed. Once applied, the dressing can be left in place for an extended period – typically 7 to 15 days and for up to 4 weeks. This not only allows the wound bed to heal undisturbed by frequent dressing changes and enhances patient comfort, but also brings significant productivity increases and material and labor cost savings for medical facilities. Once the wound heals, the product flakes off like a scab and if the wound does not heal before a necessary dressing change, it can be easily removed by saturating with saline as it does not require any adhesives to remain in place. The product is patented and made in the US and it has a wide range of applications ranging from trauma, burns and surgical wounds to chronic conditions like diabetic foot ulcers. Application Guide: 1. Wear sterile gloves. Debride or clean wound as required. Moisten with saline or antimicrobial. Pour powder to cover entire surface. 2. Gently drip or spray additional saline to complete transformation if needed. Avoid submerging the powder. 3. Regularly inspect the wound. Visible margins enable inspection without primary dressing changes. 4. Cover with non-adhesive contact layer and secure wrap, especially in more exudative wounds or in areas of high friction or motion. 5. Dressing flakes off as the wound heals. More exudative wounds may require regular secondary dressing changes and top up of Altrazeal® from time to time. 6. If dressing removal is required prior to wound healing, submerge in saline and gently lift off with forceps.
