It works but it’s annoying. False alarms galore
The suction cups: they stay on for a time. But you do have to reapplyThe sound: even on the lowest volume it’s far too loud. The sounds are annoying so the volume needs to go lowerCons: even when you set the unit to eliminate the signals passing cars put out, it does not work. It still goes crazy when it doesn’t need to. Any car with a signal will set it off.False alarms- ALL THE TIME. Never once encountered a police car/radar. Look for grocery stores and airports to always set it off and lots of passing car falsies.I’ll be buying a different unit in the future

Blows the "latest Rev C+" Whistler Pro 78se out the water!
I just wanted to post an update and an initial review of the Whistler CR85. I JUST bought the lastest version of the Pro 78se in early July. If anyone here lives/travels through Atlanta, GA, they will know GSP is out almost every day in the metro area as well as other county and city police (Dekalb, Atlanta, Cobb, Doraville, Gwinnett, and etc). The terrain on both street and highway is VERY hilly and full of curves. There is also the potential for TONS of falsing due to Alanta being a high-tech city. There isn't much flat straight areas here unless you're heading out to the country or on your way out/in of Georgia. All these LEOs use the most sneaky cop traps and latest LIDAR and radar tools out there. The virtually NEVER use Constant On, only Instant On Radar Pulses and are sneaky with their lidar shots as well. If there's an environment where you have the LEAST warning to radar or lidar, it's ATLANTA! Virtually ALL of the LEOs here use LIDAR unless you're out in the country or there are multiple LEOs lined up for a speed trap. There are tons of Motorcycles, Dodge Chargers, Crown Vics, Tahoes, and you name it used on a REGULAR basis. If there's a town you're gonna get caught speeding in, it's DEFINITELY Atlanta! With this being said, I have looked all over for a real world review on the new Whistler CR series and couldn't find one. I had done my research and was impressed with the latest Pro 78se and thought there wouldn't be much difference between the Pro78se and the CR85. WRONG! I already bought my wife a CR85 and got to test both (the CR85 and Pro 78se) out in her car. At first, with the same settings, it didn't really seem like much of a difference between the 2 until I had a few encounters. Anyhow, here's the difference in cliffnotes: Settings for BOTH detectors were: X-band OFF, K-band ON, Ka-MAX ID, LSRID, Highway, Pop OFF, SWS ON, TFSR ON, Filter (the default setting), and a few others that shouldn't affect your detection. The BIGGEST difference is the CR85 really does catch ALL the new laser guns! I had both detectors mounted up high just under the tint strip on opposite sides of the rearview mirror about a 12 inches apart (CR85 hardwired) and tested for falsing with this setup vs only one detector on at a time. Both are very quiet here with TFSR ON (a MUST in Atlanta), but the CR85 has additional filter settings if you want that the Pro78se doesn't have (but I don't need to use them since neither falses much at all ever here). I didn't really see any differences with the exception of one KNOWN K-band false alert at a Kaiser Permanente parking lot I frequently pass (meaning I got a false alert while both detectors were on that I normally don't get at all on either by themselves). The CR85 consistently had AT LEAST a 5 seconds alert head-start traveling 65-70mph = (500-750 feet or so give or take???) over the Pro 78se (lastest version remember so older Pro 78se's will be even slower). The CR85 is also a BEAST with detecting LASER (LIDAR)! I was in the left lane doing 65 mph during moderate traffic and picked up on a GSP shooting laser OFF AXIS (in a slight curve), at the bottom of a hill facing forward (direction of travel) sitting in an exit gore on the right. I got a laser detection at least 0.5 miles back (completely out of sight) give or take, and what makes it so bad, the Pro78se NEVER alerted to it at all. I had PLENTY of time to slow down even if I was doing over 100mph. Of course in Atlanta, you virtually ALWAYS have a rabbit, so that was the tip off to the laser but this was a sneaky trap! Had I been speeding, with the Pro78se I would have been caught! Mind you I've been by dozens of LEOs here with it and it virtually never goes off to lidar (they must be using Laser Ally, Truspeed S, Prolaser III's, etc) and if it does, a blind person would have seen the LEO before the Pro78se went off lol. This is NOT the case with the CR85, it's a BEAST with picking up LIDAR! I had this happen multiple times so far with similar conditions.Anyhow, I actually feel safe with the CR85's lidar detection with a rabbit or 2 and using your brain of course. I was considering a laser jammer before I saw how well the CR85 has picked up LIDAR! Yes it's THAT GOOD! I didn't discuss K-band and Ka-Band detection much because it's not used much here on the interstates in the metro area, but I can tell you both K and Ka-band detection is GREATLY improved on the CR85 meaning MUCH MORE range and heads-up! Both the Pro78se and CR85 picked up on all K and Ka-band LEOs showing the same ID numbers from what I can remember. The difference between the 2 was so great that my wife told me to pull the trigger on another CR85 for myself which should be here tomorrow lol.

Not bad compared to my older escort passport 8500 X50
I bought this to see if it can compare to my old trusted escort 8500 x50 that had finally gave out on me after so many good years. I was looking for something cheap to change my mind on buying a escort redline for $500 that i didn't wont to spend. So i read the reviews on this whistler and thought i would give it a try for the road trip i had coming up. The road trip consist of traveling from south florida to north florida for a total of a 1000 miles round trip.To start off i turned off x band cause no cops in florida use it. Beginning my trip i started on a long state road that leads to interstate 75, here is where the whistler shines. While driving i get a weak KA 1, so i slow down from 75 to 60 and Ka band goes off for a couple of seconds then comes back on weak working its way up. Finally after about 2 1/2 miles i pass a state trooper behind a fallen tree just seating there facing me with constant on KA radar. At this point i was impressed with the cr85.Now to the interstate. First major city i go past is interstate 75 Tampa, which surprisingly wasn't that many cops out, my avg. distance on KA band here was about 1 1/2 to 2 miles that the radar would pick up. Next was interstate 10 Tallahassee, what ever you do, do not speed here. State troopers everywhere, this is where i wouldn't trust the best of radars. Cops seating down hill waiting for speeders coming from over the hill, this is where the cr85 failed, no time to brake before cop clocked me. Also note when i tested this radar on the interstate my speed is only 8 over posted speed so cops really don't mess with you at the speed unless they are super-cops. Now far as laser, i had this radar go off once in Tallahassee but i didn't see any cops around but i guess that really doesn't mean they were not there. All laser means to me is they got my butt when it goes off if im speeding. I personally dont trust laser on any radar. So now im off interstate 10 going into the country side of florida, nothing but hills and curves. This part i didnt like, first cop i come to is using k band, this is where the cr85 is weak, he had constant on K band coming around a curve by the time cr85 went off he saw me. So really no time to brake.Comparing to the escort i would say the escort 8500 x50 is better in every aspect as far as K and KA (KA very close call on axis) but for the price and location of where i travel the most i am comfortable using the cr85. The weakness of the whistler is k band, curves and hills(off axis). Strengths are straightaways with KA band. Here where i live the cops use KA and most of the road i travel are straight so to me this radar cant be beat with the price i paid. If you live in a flat area with not many hills and curves i would recommand this radar, if not then this radar isn't for you. Also on this trip i only really only sped on the one road i use a lot because i know where cops usually stake out at, when using a radar be smart about speeding, learn your radar limits and be safe. I know for me, when i speed i am way more alert than if i wasn't speeding.

Better safe than sorry
It gets a LOT of false positives, especially with all these newer vehicles with radar guided collision avoidance and lane holding, but I figure that if I have to slow down every time it goes off, that’s better than a ticket. It definitely will detect.

trust it, it works well
had an 900 kilo trip and it found three traps in one trip. 2 were k band radar and on laser

Excellent product, does exactly what its been made for
Excellent product, does exactly what its been made for. No complex settings to understand, it detects all speed radars/guns including lasers.

Functions okay.
This one was rated very well, for Radar Detectors in the middle price range. I found it was "always" alarming and I really don't think it should have been rated that highly. With the alarms going off all the time, I stopped using it because I ended up just driving at my regular speed without it.
