Excellent book even for the beginner
As an experienced floor loom and rigid heddle loom weaver, I was intrigued by inkle loom weaving but hesitant to buy an inkle loom. This book is well written, detailed in its step-by-step instructions, and makes taking on a new skill non-intimidating. There are many, many pictures and illustrations which was an unexpected bonus. A few minutes after carefully reading through the first how-to section for the second time, I was ready to start warping and weaving . I used my rigid heddle loom with a reed set on the back of a double heddle support (for extra distance from my work) and a fishing net shuttle I had purchased just the day before from Amazon. I would recommend using your smallest reed (mine is a 12), direct warping with a peg and winding and threading normally. In the future I will probably purchase a pattern heddle and use it as Mrs. Torgenrud shows but you can certainly achieve good results with a rigid heddle. Five stars!

Worth it!!!!
Great detailed illustrations, step by step. Really appreciate the history section and the honesty detailing when and where these patterned bands can be documented in the historical stream. Good for a beginner who needs to setup a band from scratch. I also loved the practical use section of patterned bands and the Vesterheim museum examples and documentation. The author/weaver has a lot of teaching under her 'belt' and it shows in her presentation of the instructions.Lovely book, lovely pictures, lovely patterns. Glad I bought it.

Great for Historic Textile Information
Thoroughly enjoying this book. The pictures are wonderful. I'm really into history and great care has been taken to cover historical aspects of this type of weaving. I'm doing some experimental patterns for bands and this book is so useful. Well worth the price.

This is one of my favorite books. It gives historical context
This is one of my favorite books. It gives historical context, patterns, materials, equipment, instructions that make intuitive sense - all of the good and interesting information that a weaver would want. I always feel inspired by this book.

Visually stunning book - but not best choice for learning the learning how to band weave
Bottom line, if you want a beautiful book this one is five stars. If you are an experienced weaver, or can take a class in person, it is probably 4 to 5 stars. If you are a beginning band weaver and want to succeed, this is definitely not your best starter book. I would strongly advise you to get Weaving Patterned Bands by Susan Foulkes (also available on Amazon) which is much more beginner friendly. My reasoning is detailed below.I bought this after a friend praised the author’s classes at the Vesterheim museum in Decorah Iowa. It is an absolutely beautifully illustrated book with a lot of interesting history especially about the craft in the USA and the Vesterheim collection.Flushed with enthusiasm I wanted to learn how to weave pick up pattern band, , I bought this book and basic tools but when I tried, I found the instructions very hard to follow. The heddles and shuttle have languished in a box for the last couple of years and I donated my first copy of this book to my fiber guild. For an experienced weaver, I suspect the instructions are more than adequate but I am a novice. I was very disappointed by my failure. In 2019, I was given a Sami weaving kit For Christmas. With the kit plus several Utube videos, I successfully created my first pick up woven band and I have since gone on to create more. I just bought another copy of this book (didn’t want to snatch the original one back) Now I feel able to look at it again from the instructional point of view. My first successful band has only 5 pick up pattern threads, the patterns in this book starts out with 7 and rapidly increase in complexity. Some advanced designs have over 25 pick up pattern threads. Visually beautiful, no doubt but I’m going to be weaving 5 and 7 thread patterns for some time befote I advance to more complex ones !

A fantastic book for your reference library!
Put your name in it and loan it to friends only if they give you their car keys or first born as collateral! This is a fantastic book. The photographs are detailed and lovely. The book begins with the history of scandinavian weaving and tools, and the uses for bands. The author is quite detailed. It's a history lesson, but in a 'sitting at your best friend's morning coffee table' kind of way, instead of a dry 7am lecture. That section alone makes it worth the price of admission. She goes on to creation of the band section, where she not only just tells you what to make, but the mechanics behind the process and how to create and design your own.I have highly recommended this book to not only fellow weavers, but to local fiber shops.

Well Done
This is a beautifully done book, well written, lots of historical photos.I've been fascinated with band weaving for some time and this had just added to it. I've never actually woven a band weaving but I believe the information in book in clear enough for me to give it a try.

Useful and enjoyable
A very useful hb book. It starts with the history, traditions and usage of the woven bands. Then follows an equipment and 'how to' section. It also contains a number of patterns. Can be used by a beginner to learn. Just remember that one needs to practise to become proficient. The patterns are also useful for intermediate weavers and the background information is interesting for any crafter.
