An Unexpected but Interesting Ride
When you first look at the cover you expect Spidey to be facing ol Helmet head in your standard good guy fights bad guy scenario, but what actually happens is far more than meets the eye. From the start you’re engaged as you see Juggernaught getting rocketed through the sky and crashing New York and our Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler is left wondering “who or what can send the Juggernaught flying?” The actual antagonist of this a weilder of the power cosmic (something Spidey is all too familiar with) and it’s great to see Peter face enemies that are of this godlike level to emphasize how formidable he really is. Also the backstory between Juggernaught and the new Captain Cosmic is fun, unique and brings into perspective the Juggernaught’s past as a villain and his drive to do better. If you’re looking for a good old fashioned showdown between Spider-Man and Juggernaught, you might be a bit turned off but if you’re looking for something out of the norm and unique among the Gauntlet series, this is an excellent one to jump into.

Best book of the whole Gaunlet series.
That's not saying much but this book was pretty good. Definite page turner for me.

Good stuff taken on it's own.
This trade collects Amazing Spider-Man issues # 626-629 and #229-230.As a cohesive story, The Gauntlet has been disappointing. Spider-Man is running afoul of a wide variety of his rogues and other dangers, but it hasn't been a concerted or connected effort (as implied by the title). The common plot thread is becoming more apparent, but it still isn't particularly compelling. But the individual encounters have been interesting, and have had more good than bad. These issues come in behind the Mysterio story as my favorites, roughly tied with the Electro stuff. We have a nice side plot featuring the new Scorpion and Peter's roommate and then the titular guest star takes center stage in a three-issue tale. It wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and there were a lot of nice touches throughout. To round out the trade we get Spider-Man's first encounter with the Juggernaut. I actually recommend reading this first as elements tie to the new story. It's decent - how much you like it will depend on your taste for comics in general from the time period.Overall another decent stand alone trade tied to a "major event" which hasn't lived up to it's potential thus far.

Great old-fashioned story
As far as the story goes...it is something of a continuation/revisitation of the first time Spidey and Juggernaut met (20-something years ago). It is set within the current time period and continuation, though. It even includes the first two issues of the old story. Which was great for me since I had never read them. I love the artwork by Lee Weeks. I'll have to be honest that I don't always dig his style, but it was perfect for this book.I haven't read the entire Gauntlet storyline yet, but I just don't see how this story even fits. I have the Rhino & Mysterio trade also, and Spiderman never really even fights these villains. It's more of an indirect thing. I don't get it. I thought this whole storyline was basically a copy of the Batman Knightfall premise. I guess I'll have to read them all to see how it ends up.Overall, I give the book 3.5 stars due to the "classic" feel of the story and art. But it feels like Marvel is really pushing this story into too many volumes.By the way, there is also a side story including some new Lady Scorpion or something like that. It's very forgettable IMO.

As stories within "The Gauntlet" event have been going, this was probably the best, but that isn't saying much.
Collects Amazing Spider-Man issues #626-629 and the classic "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut" story from Amazing Spider-Man issues #229-230As stories within "The Gauntlet" event have been going, this was probably the best, but that isn't saying much. This basically had nothing to do with "The Gauntlet," but the Juggernaut story was pretty entertaining.Final rating = 3.5 stars
