Review: An absolute delight to read! - This author had my interest from the first paragraph. Her stories are set against a timeline of local and world events, which makes them easy to relate to. The love she has for her profession is evident in every birth story, and her excitement is contagious to the reader. Each birth becomes an emotional event that pulls the reader in, whether the outcome is happy or sad. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes books about babies and midwifery. Review: A life well spent - Engrossing life story of a person who obviously found their calling. Never boring and very real. The author presents her profession in a most appealing light and throws in just enough about her private life to make it authentic.

Wonderful book. The second book following "The Midwife is Here!". Most sequels don't measure up to the original story. Linda Fairley's writing on the continuation of her journey is terrific and just as enchanting as her first book. Far from mushy, Ms. Fairley's writing is filled with warmth, humor, and the inevitable changes and losses in life as we grow into our later years. I found myself retelling some of her midwife stories in conversation with friends, resulting in laughs and other shared stories. If you want to curl up with a good "feel good" book at the end of the day, I highly recommend Linda Fairley's books!

Couldn't put it down
I simply could not stop reading this story. The midwife in this book was absolutely terrific. She faced some difficult times but still had a deep love for her work. I can only imagine what it is like to go into some of these homes to deliver children when the conditions may be terrible. I can also imagine the joy of delivering a child to a couple that have waited forever to complete this long awaited moment. The fact that this woman gets called out on horrible nights when the weather is atrocious but she is still able to be there in time to help with the birth is amazing.

I liked her first book better
I liked her first book better. This one seems more self serving, she's almost defensive in explaining the end of two marriages and how much more important her career was.

Wish that Linda Fairley could write some more.
Before I started reading Linda Fairley first book "The Midwife's Here" I read the reviews of both books. I have now read both books and really enjoyed them I feel I know Linda as she share her life with us. I'm from a Nursing back ground but never did Midwifery but love babies and did Private nursing after training and enjoyed going in to people house and getting to know your patients. That's a long time ago and have moved back to Ireland in the 70th and started a family of my own. I would recommended these books for a nice easy read. Linda I wish you the best for the rest of your life to you and your family. N.

Could not put it down
I could not put down either of Linda's books. Birth is absolutely fascinating and Linda has a very thoughtful and analytic way of examining her past experiences. Her career spans many changes in midwifery and society in general and the pre-internet lanscape of birth is fascinating. Definitely worth a read.

I really enjoyed reading Linda's first book - "The Midwife's Here", but I think I enjoyed this one even more, if at all possible. The first book focused very much on Linda qualifying to become a nurse, and then her days as a student midwife, and her early days as a newly qualified midwife. But I was itching to read more about her life, knowing that she is the longest serving midwife in the UK, I knew it would be very interesting. I love Linda's compassion and the way in which she talks about her Mums. You can tell that she builds up a real rapport with the Mums, and that some of the cases stay with her for a very long time - be it good or bad. I love her funny little stories too. I spent much of the time reading this book wanting to laugh, or cry. I also loved reading about Linda's life which has been full of ups and downs and happy times and sad. I loved reading about her family, and her own experiences of having children. Also, later in life how her children have grown and what they have became. This book was incredibly moreish, and I devoured it very quickly! Sadly, I think this may be the last book from Linda, but it will be a real shame if it is. For others that are a fan of all things midwifery, this is one of the best books that I have read on the subject. Brilliant!

I am a retired RN so I am interested in these experiences, though not a midwife. I liked reading the book, thought it got a bit boring once in awhile. I guess the working midwifery crew got along almost too well. I have worked as a nurse for most of my life & this book seems to be almost a utopian workplace. I have worked with assorted nurses ,some of whom are not really easy to work with. It would be nice to have this lovely interesting "family" to work with.

I read this via my kindle and I have never felt so sad when the book came to an end, I wanted it to go on for ever. It was an absolute joy to read. There were times when I didn't want to put the kindle down. The stories were both happy, sad and heartwarming. I was honestly disappointed with Linda's first book. I thought she talked too much about her training years as a nurse and should have placed more emphasis on her midwife skills. She certainly made up for it this time. Having read the book, I feel like I know Linda personally, she confided that much in the book it's as if I do really know her. She paints such a vivid picture of her patients it's as though a vision of them comes to mind too. You can tell she put her heart and soul into her profession who will no doubt be lost without her skills now she has retired. Come on Linda, you must have more stories to tell. Well done on a excellent book. To other Amazon customers hovering over the buy button, press it, you won't be disappointed, that's a promise.
