restored a neon sign, used this transformer,really liked that it had a switch and the correct wire on the output side

Old neon clock I wanted to fix for my oldest son's birthday. Took forever to find someone to fix the neon tubing (broke in two places). Then found out transformer was bad. Couldn't get an original replacement, but this worked fantastic! Very easy to install too! Oh, and he loved the sign!

The fit is different but it works great. Would definitely recommend

Bought this transformer and installed it exactly per instructions. Worked fine for about 5 weeks. Now past the return date, so I guess I'm SOL. Don't know if it's just a bad one or they are just junk. At this point I can't recommend them. Hate to trash the sign, but also hate to invest in another transformer to try again

Lower voltage than I needed, ended up buying a second and halved the neon circuit and it works great, even 6 months later. Probably would work fine for a small neon, I used two for a rather large older neon and it’s still rocking.

So I just received my order of two units. I was very excited at a $16 power supply! I've been doing novice neon work this last year and power supplies are the most expensive part of the equation. I grabbed a unit and brought it into the shop to do some testing and see how it performs. Results as follows:test subject -- 15mm tubing, 5' adding 1' for electrodes, calculate as 6'.input: 110vacshort circuit = 14macircuit after powering tube = 8.2maThis precipitous drop suggests that the voltage is lower than the suggested 3kv at this inputinput: 240vacshort circuit = 26.7macircuit after powering tube = 20.4maThis current and consumption are more in line with the suggested ratingsconclusion: though rated as 100 - 240vac, this unit only performs satisfactorily at 240vac. It is not power-corrected, or else the power-correction is malfunctioning on the unit tested. I should also note that this specific unit I tested I am intending as a casual accent lamp, and the dimmer glow produced at 100vac suits these purposes. If it was to be a shop window or business signage, it would be missing the luminosity found at full power.further tests:open circuit protection worksno ground protectiontested using true RMS meters
