Kenneth Anger: Magick Lantern Cycle [Blu-ray]

I've owned these Shorts on VHS, and this is the best they've looked. BFI always does a great job with their relases and this is no exception.

Own the 2 disc dvd set but had to have this anyway, so glad i got this, bigger aspect ratio than the dvd set.This set also includes the dvd version as well as the anger me added extra both being in pal format, no problem if you have an all regions player which i do.This is a must have if you love film.Got mine from the global amazon store, shipping was fairly quick considering a u.k. dispatch.I've seen this go for a lot more elsewhere.Top notch package 10+++++.

This is a must own upgrade for Anger fans. The differences are subtle but the films are gorgeous and are the best presentation we will liely ever see. I have yet to listen to the commentary tracks but I'm almost certain they will be the same ones used for the Anger DVD sets. I say this because my one disappointment with this set is the bonus DVD which contains an interview with Anger. This interview is the source of all the commentary tracks used on the previous sets so really there is nothing new on the bonus DVD.

These restorations are fantastic. The commentary is informative and the documentary is great. They've done Anger quite proud (what a peculiar sentence). If you've already got the DVDs you're not missing much but if you don't this package is pretty great. Be warned: it is region specific. But I popped it into my American PS3 with no problems. And my PS3 hates Blu-rays pretty severely so that's probably a good indicator.

If you are curious, purchase it. Totally worth the price and you will never see such beautiful art as there is in this set

Great collection, but it would be really nice to have them remastered like they were on earlier collections.

Us fans have sat back for years hoping something like this would become available. Just wish Mr. Page would have been involved but alas he still hasn't forgotten he was fired. roflShemhemforesh

If you like Kenneth Anger, the blu-ray is excellent. Unfortunately, Gelmini's 70 minute film about Anger, described as 'DVD only,' will not play on my British blu-ray/DVD player. On page 28 of the booklet, we're told that ' "Anger Me" was produced on NTSC Digibeta and has been converted to PAL standard for this release.' An American buyer of this blu-ray/DVD says that he has an 'all regions player,' so he was able to play 'Anger Me' OK. This suggests that an ordinary blu-ray/DVD player isn't good enough. You need an 'all regions' one.

This is packaged as a single film release but actually contains A LOT of material. It’s a very comprehensive selection of Anger’s work and it had some great supplements. Great picture and packaging quality.

Three discs of wonder, but like most BFI HD releases, the transfer/restoration job is perfunctory at best.

No self-proclaimed film buff should be caught without this superb collection of dazzling, utterly mesmerising films. These films are fine examples of the avan-garde, any fan of maya deren or David lynch will find them captivating and intriguing. If you're looking for something truly different, something to really provoke thought and inspiration, look no further.

Wanted to obtain a copy of this for myself after renting it on Love Film countless times.
