Full color and tons of fun
This is a great book for any history buff. Light hearted and grusome history for the nine-year-old in all of us... with a knowing tone and great information about the world presented in a visually appealing manner. My kid, who is obsessed with the TV show and the regular series, was delighted when Santa brought this!

Entertaining, horrible, informative--perfect for kids.
Want to get a 9-year old to giggle while reading about history on the weekend. This is the book. It's not clean and G-rated, because history wasn't either. It is full of some of the best and worst parts of humankind, and it doesn't hold back in telling those stories. A very good addition to this British series, which is always fun and surprising.

Ghoulish! Gross! Hilarious!...
We purchased this gem during our son's early homeschooling years. He absolutely loved it, along w/ all of the HORRIBLE HISTORY, SCIENCE, MATH, and whatever other variations we could get our hands on! If you have always believed that learning history simply has to be hideously boring, then this book is the blessed antidote for you! Our son learned much from these terrible tomes, and retained more than I did the old fashioned way! While -probably- not for everyone, it proves that history need not be dusty or dull...

Worked for us.
I decided to get this book for my 11 year old son who has Aspergers. Finding something that interests him enough to divert his attention can be very challenging. Thankfully, the "gross" element that these books strive for worked for my son. He doesn't see it as gross rather a potentially realistic view - which he would much rather learn about than anything dumbed or censored down for kids. And this book hits it.

Hilariously Distgusting
The title does not lie - some parts are very gruesome - but seems to catch the attention of fifth and sixth graders that are glazing over in the mainstream history.

Big hit
This was a big hit with my nine-year-old grandson. He got a real kick out of it and it kept his attention for sure. I want to get him some more soon.

Great history book for all ages
Was this book banned in the US hence my copy being a former library book? The illustrations, dialogue and text are totally enchanting and funny -- if gory -- making the history lessons memorable. The humor is British. Kids loved it and the fold out in the back of horrible people in history was worth the price alone.

Good for fun fact findings
Historically correct and my 6 graders like to read different parts when they have an opportunity.
