Kitchen Ideas that Work: Creative Design Solutions for Your Home (Taunton's Ideas That Work) Paperback – January 16, 2007

We're doing a major kitchen remodeling project soon. I have purchased at least 10 books from Amazon to help plan for this project and written reviews on some of the books. I have found this book, "Kitchen Ideas That Work: Creative Design Solutions for Your Home," to one of the most helpful I have purchased and/or checked out from my library.Every kitchen design book covers the basics of design, cabinetry, countertops, lighting, appliances, etc. in some manner or another; but this book has genuinely HELPFUL suggestions for today's kitchens. It also spans a range of kitchen update budgets.The "command center" idea is very well designed. Every kitchen collects clutter such as bills, children's artwork hanging on the frig, invitations, etc.; but with a command center the clutter is organized behind two cabinet doors. When they are open, you have an instant desk or command center. When they are closed - especially when company is coming - you have instant clean-up. That's my kind of multi-task kitchen that looks clean instantly.I liked the ingenious ideas for computers. For example, creating a laptop "desk" by designing a pull-out shelf in lieu of a top cabinet drawer is a great use of space in small kitchens and/or apartments. Other computer strategies are also included.When I first glanced through all the pictures, I thought the book would be similar to others I've purchased. However, as I took time to read most of the text (which isn't repetitive in a way many other kitchen books are), I found creative ideas and helpful tips to discuss with my contractor.The book contains some "before" and "after" plans and pictures, although that isn't a major focus of its content.My copy is now loaded with little post-it notes marking all the great ideas. My final kitchen remodeling project will be much better because I have read, and am incorporating, ideas from this book.

This book is exactly what it states in the title. It is a book of ideas to use in your kitchen. The pictures are beautiful and show in detail the different things you can do in the kitchen.The only thing you should know before buying this book is it doesn't give specific details, i.e. floor plans to create the same thing. This book is more to get you thinking of what you can do and what others have done. To put the ideas into practice you'll want to have a draftsman or architect or kitchen designer help you plan how to make the ideas work. It is a great starting point though.

This book gives us a great idea for modeling kitchen.We do not need so many information actually… make us confuse as well.I placed order a several similar books …almost same actually.Some are very stylish ways , some are very simple ways…, some are very great idea but actuallyall expensive materials …not realistic and remodeling result outcome are different.I placed order three books…2 stylish and one this book.I got a good ideas from all of books…of course books can not give you every things…recommendedto read a several books from different angle.My kitchen remodeling will start after winter this year 2014 ! I had high hopes for this book. I was a bit disappointed. There are some good ideas, but a lot of the photographs are dated. This book was done in 2007, so keep that in mind when you are looking for kitchen remodeling books. It's a good book for people who haven't looked at any other books in terms of different layout options, etc. But if you are looking for something more current, you can skip it.

Fantastic book! Tons of lovely photos to spark your inspiration! This book gives real insight into a kitchen designer's mind, both creatively and technically. I appreciated the author's clear, concise info on such topics as countertop finishes, options for sink types and materials, flooring, lighting, etc. I've got post-it notes all down the edges of this book's pages. Don't be surprised if you have more than one "a-ha!" moment while reading it! (Personally, I realized that I needed to install simple roll-out cabinet drawers to access items in the back of my lower cabinets. Never would've thought of it otherwise!)

This book is great if you have a problematic kitchen. It offers readers solutions to the most "popular" problems people encounter when remodeling their kitchen. Best of all, many of the solutions they offer are simple, fairly low-cost solutions that won't break the budget or your back.Kitchen Ideas That Work also takes you through all of the major components of a kitchen (sinks, countertops, cabinets, flooring, etc..) and offers help planning & executing your remodel while giving some great, money-saving ideas to help you finish your remodel strong.Definitely a book worth checking out before you being your project!

This is an excellent book for someone who is remodeling a kitchen, or building. Lots of great pictures/ideas for everything, plus little things you might want to add to your kitchen, but never thought about - those important details. Includes all aspects of remodeling. I borrowed it from the library first, and then ordered it. It's one of the best out there, and I've seen a lot!
