I used to own the first one but me & a friend in high school used to borrow each others books all the time and I never got that back. I love gossip girls. I did however stop reading the books once the show came out but now I want to read the books all over again. Its about rich kids in high school but its very interesting. A girl who is popular without having to try but doesn't want to be, a best friend who is sick of her best friend getting all the attention she deserve, a lonely boy as they call him trying to find his way of being a writing but also in love with a rich girl. I loved the show but I also loved the books because there's always more in the books. Review: Weird Re-read - It’s strange going back to this series after ten years (post tv show). A lot of the references are dated now - especially with the quick advancement of technology. The concept is still pretty fresh and relevant though (which is why the new tv series is being made). It’s much more adult than I expected - so don’t be afraid to read if your in your 30’s like me. I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone younger than 15/16 (due to alcohol & marijuana use / sex / crude humor).

Weird Re-read

Silly and fun
There’s no redeeming value to Gossip Girl. No moral, no redemption, no character changes. Lots of head hopping, not even line breaks to show where a scene is moving to different places and different characters. So, from a writing perspective, the book is awful. From the perspective of a reader who is in the mood for total junk and fun, this book satisfies the urge. Like eating a bag of chips with a tub of dip. Or a whole pint of high fat ice cream. Only with Gossip Girl, you don’t have to diet afterward.

Way too short.
I gave it three stars because even though I enjoyed reading the book, I feel like it was way too short. The book ends right after the Kiss on the Lips party, and if you've seen the show, I think its either episode one or two lol. Idk, I expected it to be way longer. Nothing really happened. On a positive note, I liked Daniel in the books way more than in the show. I always really disliked/hated him in the show. In the book he's actually a cool guy. All in all, I don't think it's worth the $9. I read the whole book in one day on my Kindle and was confused when it ended so abruptly. I am definitely not spending another $9 on book two, let alone all 13 books. If they came in a bundle for $9 then yeah, sure. Plus the author is an upper east sider lol I don't think I'll be giving her my hard earned money. If there's a super sale or a giveaway I would grab the books; they were an easy and entertaining read. Oh and the book description says its witty and funny or something, but I do not agree lol. Nothing witty or funny about it, just teen trash.

An awesome, guilty pleasure!
I did this backwards. I loved GG on TV, so then I decided to track down the books. They're fabulous. Blair is such a B...and Serena is...well, Serena! I was worried that the books wouldn't have the same awesomness as the series, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'll be reading the entire series now, thanks. Gossip Girl is my guilty pleasure. I loved reading about the naughty lives the Upper East Siders lead, and living vicariously through them. Totally a fun read, and I cannot wait for book #2 to arrive!

The Upper East Side
I've watched all the gossip girl tv shows with my daughter. Can't say that I agree with the lifestyle of the Upper East Side teens. However, there are a few characters that I do like - Dakota and Serena. So I bought this book as I wanted to get to know more about these people and perhaps understand more about how teens are these days. I am amazed that the book is much better than the tv shows. More detailed and characters not as stupid as portrayed in the shows. I found it quite enjoyable so giving it 4 stars!

Loved the TV series … so finally decided to read the books - yeah, I know, the wrong way around! But glad I finally got around to it. So much more of the characters comes thru in the books, and your imagine, while still coloured by the actors on TV, is let to roam a little more widely. Love the atmosphere and little asides that aren't necessarily included in TV, which I guess would be hard without constant voice-over. Just love this first book in the series and ready for the next one.

This is an amazing book. A Page turner. Characters were vividly described. You can understand every character well. It's juicy, funny, bitchy :P and what else..full of fun!! :)

Great story and very creative how it presents what the characters are doing. Great references and descriptions of actual places in New York. I was a little sad to read that Serena and Blair smoke.
