5 would probably have fit just right but the 9s worked out fine - with so much walking around (and considering these ...
Super-comfortable shoes. I bought these for our Europe trip over a year ago and they worked out really well. I didn't have much time to break them in before but had no problems while in Europe. It was snowing in Paris and really cold there but these shoes kept my feet warm and dry. No problems I can recall from slipping on ice either (although I wouldn't want to put them through more thorough testing than I did).I ordered a size 8 and size 9 (they didn't have 8.5s available at the time) and the 8 was definitely too small. I think the 8.5 would probably have fit just right but the 9s worked out fine - with so much walking around (and considering these are hiking boots and would also be paired with thicker hiking socks when appropriate), I figure going half a size up is probably the best thing anyway.

Basically a low-top hiking boot
I was hoping that these would be waterproof but would look and feel just like normal athletic shoes. And, although they certainly seem waterproof (given results from my limited, puddle-splashing test) and are much less clunky than traditional waterproof hiking boots, they won't be confused for athletic shoes by either the wearer or onlookers. They're simply heavier and stiffer than I was expecting (and hoping for). I still intend to keep them and will wear them when facing all but the most demanding of wet conditions (i.e., when the situation doesn't call for muck or other boots), but I'll likely want to take them off the moment the conditions clear.

A Very Good Purchase
For years I have purchased New Balance shoes for Volksmarch walking events, and for normal away from home wearing. At home I have been wearing inexpensive athletic shoes that would last (at the best) for 6mos.Since buying the Teva Hiking Shoes I've worn the shoes in rainy, muddy, everyday use, and in hiking environment conditions; Recently participated in a Volksmarch walking event, decided not to wear the New Balance walking shoes, and wore the Teva shoes without any problems. The shoes are very well built, including the sturdy heel area where I have pronation problems with the cheaper shoes. I ordered the shoes using my normal athletic shoe size, and the Teva shoes fit just fine. If there is a complaint, it is that the shoe's tongues are not long enough to be able to tie to the top lugs and have the laces set on them. But, the same goes for the New Balance shoes that I also wear.

A very good shoe
This is the second pair of Raith eVents that I have gotten. For me, it is almost perfect. The reason I say this is that it is the only pair of shoes that I own with which I do not need an orthotic insert in order to prevent foot pain. This might just be me since my foot pain originated with a stress fracture during the 1990s. Anyway, my feet feel great without any inserts when I wear these shoes, which is every day. I also do a lot of walking, averaging about 3 miles a day (in the city), so I guess you can say they are wear-tested. Some reviewers complain that they are hot. I have not found this to be a problem. Other reviewers have complained that Teva shoes are undersized. This, I think, is true. I'd say they are undersized by about 1/2 size. Another complaint is that they start tearing here and there after a few months. For me, two small tears appeared after six months. All in all, and in spite of the defects just noted, I give them 5 stars because of their comfort and good looks.

Great for trekking in Europe
These Teva Raith shoes were excellent for walking all over western Europe! They're not too heavy, yet provide excellent padding & durability for the cobblestone roads and uneven surfaces found in the old country towns of N. Italy & Spain. Although I didn't encounter any torrential downpours, for the occasional times there were showers, there were no issues with water getting into the shoes. My feet feel comfortable in these shoes, although I haven't used them in the heat of summer.Having mostly worn tennis/running shoes, it did take a few days to get used to the more "solid" design of the hiking shoe. I ended up using the same size as my running shoe.My only gripe is the laces tend to come untied easily.

Runs smaller, but worth it.
Shoe fits smaller than it should.I am a 10, have been for 30 years. The 10 was tight at the toes so I got the 10.5. Felt great on the toes but the heel was too loose. Went back the 10 and sucked it up for a bit and the shoe fits like a glove now. The shoe will relax and give a little after a bit of work, but it is well worth it.They are light, very light!! and flexible, So far the shoe is very breathable during the work day, my feet have yet to get hot and sweaty. Recommend!!Only reason not 5 stars is they didn't fit out of the box. Takes some work, but in the end worth it!

A touch hotter, tighter, and harder than expected
Its a nice looking and fairly comfortable show. Appears durable, but I've only had it for a few days. Some commented that it runs small, but I don' think it is any shorter than the size should be; the 'toe-box' is a bit tighter than many shoes though, so if you have large / wide toes, yes the shoe will be small. Really like the shoe overall, but this being summer, it is hotter than I expected, despite the name "e-vent" it is a waterproof shoe, and has a heat capacity similar to a non-vented leather shoe...not exactly breezy, so be prepared! The sole also doesn't have much give, so it is fairly hard-bottomed, which again is pretty good for a real hiking shoe, but harder than you might want for daily wear.

Shoe tongue is not long enough. Great fit.
If the shoe tongue was 1/4" to 3/8" longer this would be PERFECT. The fit is incredible, actually nice and snug thru the arch, therefore this has probably been a HUGE HELP TO my PLANTAR FASCITUS.The tongue is so short that the laces would slip past this and crush my skin, so my only recourse was to lace the top laces backwards, exiting out the bottom of the cylindrical lace guide. This puts the top laces just a mere 1/16" to 1/8" below the end of the tongue, and they do not slip off and crush my skin. Eventually this lacing pattern will cut thru the laces.I endure this because they fit and support my foot so well.
