Building Your Own Greenhouse (Greenhouse Basics)

Great Intro To Greenhouses/Hotbeds/Coldframes
As others have said, it is not an up-to-date, high tech resource. It is, however, very informative concerning the following: things to consider in the dreaming stages, very useful in planning, very helpful in choosing among types of greenhouses, gives many examples of actual greenhouses, both attached and freestanding, good descriptions of materials available and approximate costs in the late 1990's, upsides and downsides of the choices one will make. What you don't learn from the title is that Chapter 10 is a good discussion of hotbeds and coldframes.I will be building a greenhouse to extend the growing season for my tomatoes, eggplants, chili peppers and tomatillos. I will also be building a hotbed for growing seedlings to get a jump on the growing season. This book has really helped me to sort all of that out and make key decisions about what and how to build. I read it, nearly cover to cover, in two days. It's a quick read if you already have some experience with the subject, yet it is detailed enough to be useful for the absolute beginner (IMHO).

Folksy, dated, and seat-of-the-pants, but some very useful practical information in it.
Worth the price, just don't expect something that will tell you about state-of-the-art materials or specific engineering calculations.

Virtually Useless
Well, for $10 I guess I can't be TOO upset. The information was old, and if you actually want to BUILD a greenhouse you will find no help here. In fact, this book could be more appropriately titled, 'Greenhouse Theory'. But even with regard to the theory, there wasn't much here that could not have been learned simply googling a little while.I was very disappointed.

Well designed
This book offers many plans for building a variety of greenhouses from simple to elaborate, depending on your budget. Included is an approximate cost for building each type as well as a comprehensive list of materials. Basic information important for building any type of greenhouse such as ventilation and humidity control are discussed in detail. A good place to go if you are thinking of building a greenhouse for personal use.
