Empowering and Insightful
Lead When You’re Not in Charge by Clay Scroggins was exactly the book I needed. It challenges the idea that leadership is only about titles and authority, showing instead that real leadership is about influence, attitude, and taking ownership—no matter where you are in an organization. What I loved most is how practical and relatable Scroggins makes his advice. He blends personal stories, humor, and wisdom to show how you can lead effectively even when you don’t have formal power. It really made me reflect on my own mindset and the ways I sometimes hold myself back by waiting for permission to step up.One of the most powerful takeaways for me was the idea that leadership starts with self-discipline and humility. Instead of focusing on what I can’t do in a situation, I’m now more focused on what I can do—and that shift has been a game-changer.I’d recommend this book to anyone feeling stuck, overlooked, or unsure of how to lead from where they are. It’s a great mix of inspiration and practical steps to help you make an impact, no matter your position.

Decent book on leadership
This is a decent book on leadership from a Christian standpoint. The book addresses mindsets and attitudes that will help you lead even if you are not the boss. The book though offers little for those of us in situations where we are dealing with an irrational boss. I know, and this book makes it clear, that my work environment is not a healthy one. But until another opportunity elsewhere is available, I am here. Some leadership is just insecure and not open to ideas or challenges beyond their own viewpoint. This book was a little frustrating to read as from time to time the writer would be off topic or repeat a previously stated point. The concept of the book is good. I just wish the other staff wasn’t added. This is a great book for those of us working.

awesome read
Awesome read on leadership. The reference to bible verses were pretty good in driving the point home. Kudos on this book

All about god
Sorry but a difficult read. Almost every page talks about god. This makes it difficult for a non-believer. I’m searching for guidance in leadership that anyone can learn from, not just bible thumping christians. The use of god in this book made it quite distracting. I found myself jumping over paragraphs if I saw the word. Couldn’t bring myself to finish.

Cliff note for developing your leadership practice
Excellent book on leadership taking on the roles of potential leaders. A strong theme that runs through the book is that you become what you practice. Though not said in this way Clay admonished to “become the change that you seek” a phrase more commonly associated with Mahatma Ghandi. The numerous practical examples resonate and his transparency with his own struggles was commendable.I did disagree with a few points but that did not stop my enthusiasm for the book. This is an easy read and worth the time.
