I Will Surprise My Friend!-An Elephant and Piggie Book

Great Piggie and Elephant character development.
My husband, my daughter (just turned two years old), and I absolutely LOVE the Elephant and Piggie books. They are our all time favorite set, and we read them every single night before bed time.If you are not familiar with the Elephant and Piggie books, here is what you need to know.1.) Gerald (the elephant) is a boy and Piggie is a girl. They are both hilarious, and you and your child will grow to love them.2.) The text is in speech bubbles throughout all the stories. These are easy reads, with few difficult vocabulary words for even the youngest readers. These are only a few words on most pages. I highly recommend previewing one or more books before purchasing.3.) They are funny. Most books have a clever twist at the end that everyone gets a kick out of.4.) They look terrific as a set. We own all of the books, and they look great lined up on our bookshelf. The book covers are very nice and sturdy. These are actually the ONLY books we've ever purchased new (all others were gifts or thrift store finds. We are penny pinchers, but these books are WORTH the dollars as they are terrific and look awesome). If you ARE familiar with the books, here's what you need to know about THIS book.1.) This is one of the sillier Elephant and Piggie books. I feel like most of them have great take away messages that inspire kids and teach good morals. This one lacks that -- it is just plain funny.2.) Piggie and Elephant appear equally in this book as they try to surprise each other. Two squirrels also make guest appearances.3.) This book really showcases how sensible Piggie is, and how anxious and nervous Gerald is all the time. This is one of the books that really showcases terrific character development. For slightly older kids (I have a just turned two year old), this is a great time to discuss why they feel so different from one another when presented with the same situation. Definitely a great read for teachers for this purpose as well.Bottom line -BUY ALL THE ELEPHANT AND PIGGIE BOOKS!

LOVE IT!
My Son was given a Mo Williams book for his 3rd birthday.. He loved it..and laughed at the facial expressions that Elephant would make. I bought him more books, and he loves each one. My son just turned 6 these Mo Williams books are still his favorite books. Always asks me to read them to him. Still cracks up each time. They are very well written and very cute stories. The pictures are very clear and cute. Especially Elephant's expressions and what he says, makes my son laugh every time. Im using these books now to help him read, and he is reading well each time.Highly Recommend these books.. All of them.. :)

Very engaging and a great teaching tool
Love this series. My granddaughters have giggled through these books and we’ve discussed what the characters learned. Tjey practice making the expressions of the characters and relating to what they are feeling. They each read different character parts now, but even before the youngest read, she would wait for the one bit part she had memorized with enthusiasm. Very engaging, and great teaching tool.

Piggy and Elephant are AWESOME!!
I love all Piggy and Elephant books! I’m a preschool teacher with 25 years experience in the field (taught kindergarten as well). I buy Piggy and Elephant books for every young friend on my gifting list, donate them to schools, get them for giving trees.. this particular title is hilarious- I’ve had a class of fourth graders rolling on the floor in laughter while reading it, though it’s intended audience is much younger. We purchased this one as a Bar Mitzvah gift for a special friend- and he loved it!! That’s how great these books are

Great series for kids!
My granddaughter loves this series. Mo Willems is a great children's author. I learned of him on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, but the grandkids already had a Piggy toy.

Attention-grabbing and funny gem
This book is really cute and such a joy to read! I read it myself before reading it to the Kindergarten class, and I honestly thought it was good but I wasn't overly impressed; however, when I read it out loud to the Kindergarten students, the kids absolutely LOVED it! It kept their full attention to the very end and they all laughed out loud a couple of times. It was really cute. They enjoyed it so much that they asked me to read it a second time. The kids can really relate to the story and the emotions and thought processes that the elephant and piggie go through. I am so happy that I bought this book. It is now a class favorite. I definitely recommend it.

Yes!
My 3-1/2 year old granddaughter absolutely loves these books, after we read them a few times together, she'll sit and read them to herself! Such a perfect series. I recently got her a couple of the Pigeon books and she likes those, too! Bravo!

Finally!!!!
An emergent reader series that is not boring! It's funny, you can actually listen to it again and again and again, which if your child is learning how to read or a struggling reader you will:)It is emergent/early reader, think level 1 with decodable words repeated and introduced perfectly. Enough to gain skill but not too much to bore. (Think Dick & Jane.......easy to decode but boring)By the author of the "Don't let the pigeon...." & "Knuffle Bunny" series and "Leonardo the terrible Monster" Mo Willems is a Caldecott winner, former Sesame Street writer and a genius!Buy them all & look forward to nighttime or anytime storytime. (I keep some of them in the car)
