Urdu short stories
Most of the stories described the pains of partion of India and Pakistan. Most of the younger generation are not aware of that part of history of these countries. The story of " Thouba Tek Singh " shows the irony of heartless thinking of administration of both the countries.I will recommends this book to my friends.

This is a good collection
This is indeed a good collection of short stories, and I am indeed glad that this has been published. Urdu has declined, as a language, in many parts of North & Northwest India. My father spoke it, as did my grandfather. Not meI have been rediscovering the works of Urdu poets and writers, and it is indeed good that this book has been published because it serves to remind the public (also in India) that there are great stories to be found in my country, in languages other than English. The collection of stories itself is good. Whether this is a collection of the greatest, or among the greatest, is a matter of debate. Some of the stories shine through, even with the limitations of the English language. Stories like Lajwanti, Toba Tek Singh, etc are magnificent even in English. Others suffer, even though the translators have done a magnificent job.It is definitely a book worth reading. It has inspired me to hunt for the stories, in Hindi sadly, to add to my own collection. To that extent, Muhammad Umar Memon has performed a great service.

A Literary Marvel ❤️
A package of beautifully crafted literary pieces, which were way ahead of their times!Apart from the technique of the stories, the most brilliant thing is the power and impact they can have on a reader. It’s like, The Great Urdu Stories Ever Told is a different world in itself. The world which gives you a different sense of calm and magic, a strange sense of peace. Some people may not have the aptitude to decipher the depth of these stories which risks this beautiful book. Hence if you know how to engage with a text, then my recommendation to definitely go for it.Literary lovers this is a must add to your library.

A must read
I've heard of many authors mentioned here before but didn't get around reading their work. Also, now I got the chance to read many unknown authors from the sub continent I am in awe. If only I could read Urdu and I could read Hindi in the speed I read English, the stories in this book , I would have read in their original text

And I was given a fake paperback version which clearly looks like a poor copy of the original book
I ordered for a hardcover copy (which is the only format available) of this book. And I was given a fake paperback version which clearly looks like a poor copy of the original book.

A great read for beginners to Urdu
An excellent introduction to writers of the sub continent. With some classics like Toba Tek Singh, and a few lesser known books, this is a good introduction to Urdu literature for beginners.
