They’re seeds! Hard to tell yet.
Difficult to tell when they’re still seeds.

No problem at all getting the seeds to germinate. In fact, I needed to thin mine. Unfortunately, with heavy rainfall, our weather this spring has not been cooperative. The trick is that the seeds must be placed on top of the soil or potting mixture, and need direct sunlight. I mention this because reviewers of balloon flower seeds from other suppliers complained of seeds not germinating. If all goes well, these will bring back memories of Korea, where they are raised for cooking, tea, and even medicine, plus the flowers are gorgeous! I am attaching two photos from very small farms near where I lived that raised them to show what they should look like.Update (21 August): Mine are blooming already, which was a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect them to bloom this first year, let alone considering the late start they got (mid-May). They're still compact (which I don't mind!), but will presumably become taller later in the season, or in their second year. The third photo shows what mine looked like this afternoon.(2nd update): This year, I trimmed mine when they got about 2-3 feet tall, and they looked like beautiful flowering shrubs next to our front porch, but it is best to pinch off the blossoms, after they have wilted, for the plants to continue to bloom. They got so many compliments from neighbors!

ZERO PLANTS
My question when I received the seeds was, “These are so tiny, how can anyone possibly know if they truly received 1,400?”I planted them in three locations, one of which already had successfully growing balloon plants planted last year. Now, a bit down the road, I realize that it didn’t matter how many seeds I received, since ZERO of whatever number I received germinated.

台南女中校花,桔梗花!
I have not planted the seeds yet. Hopefully in the zone 9 I am in, the sunlight is enough to grow the balloon flowers.

They haven't sprouted at all.
We weren't able to get these seeds to grow at all. We started them just as advised but nothing sprouted. I an very disappointed. I bought the flowers once before already growing from a local hardware store and was able to keep them alive for several years. Now I only have 3 plants left and I was hoping to add to them by starting my own seeds. However we haven't had any luck with these. I will have to search for another way to add to my collection. The flowers are very pretty and easy to take care of once you get them started.
