Ports are off or not even there.
I guess we have the wrong generation of Fire HD too, the holes in this case don't fit the ports. We bought our daughter a Kindle Fire HD 7" for Christmas, then this case to go with it. I had no idea the Fire we bought would have a generation issue.The case is cool, though, we would've liked to keep it. Some other reviewers mentioned that the screen protector was a little too thick, but you could actually run it without the protector on and it would work fine.

The wrong case - Old Edition
I purchased the case and it arrived right on time. It arrived weeks before the Fire HD 7" was released. The company did not clarify earlier edition or 2014 edition. It appeared sturdy in the photo, but much more flimsy in person.

Cheaply made
The cover to the usb ripped off in a couple days. The stand broke after a few weeks. Disappointment. Don't buy this product.

great case
I love this case I just got it today and I did have a little trouble getting the screen protector on. But I love it still fits great feels good and also looks cool. So I wold recommend this case to any one with a kindle fire (2012) edition.
