Good projector, sound is a little lacking in places
The media could not be loaded. I wasn’t expecting much from this, but I was surprised. It is a solid and weighty chunk of a device, not much bigger than an Echo plus. It can be free standing or mounted on a tri-pod. Though I am not 100% sure if it is a standard size tripod threadI thought the picture would be grainy and dull, but it was quite bright and colourful despite the fact I was projecting onto a blue wall. Setting up was relatively straight forward. I chose to connect to my home network using the remote control to input details, but it isn’t necessary as you can directly connect to it. Once connected I simply went to my phone and selected the cast option in the settings and the Benq appeared. Seconds later I am streaming my phone to the projector. I was streaming a 4K video and whilst the projector isn’t 4K (HD), it was able to put out a clear video and it could handle the speed of data being transferred. The head can be tilted up or down and as you do the keystone is automatically adjusted (can be manually altered). Focus is via a thumb wheel to give crisp images. If you want a bigger picture, simply move the projector back, but obviously there is a sweet spot between clarity and size. I don’t have a large wall space free, but projecting it onto walls around the house, you can get a fair size with continuing clarity. The battery isn’t too bad with a reported 3 hours, but that is perfect conditions of course. I have watched a 2 hour film and it ran seamlessly throughout and with life to spare. The only slight negative is with the sound. I feel it lacks a little substance, but maybe I am unfairly comparing it to an Amazon Echo plus which can give a bit of a thump. Other than that, it is a superb device as long as you have the space to project onto.

Terrible quality.
Very poor quality. Difficult set up, keeps disconnecting. You can’t see much unless the room is dark and the picture quality is very poor. When mirroring from your iPhone using the projector’s hotspot, it disconnect the internet on your iPhone so you can’t stream from YouTube etc.

Extremely user-unfriendly
I really wanted to like this.On the plus side: it’s compact and light. The head is adjustable through about 15 degrees to help angle the picture against the projection surface. And that’s about the end of my positive comments. We couldn’t set it up. We got stuck on the screen where you connect to your WiFi. We entered our WiFi password (something we have done successfully for many other Bluetooth devices in our home), and it would not accept it. We tried several times and each time we enetered the password and clicked “done”, it took us back to the “enter password” page. Also, the response speed was very slow. You click a button or try to advance to the next field, and it moved so slowly that you thought it hadn’t responded at all.The limited access we had did allow us to assess picture quality: it was nowhere near the quality of an average TV, but for a projector it was fine. The focus knob is waaaaaaaay too coarse though. Getting the thing in focus is very time-consuming and unsatisfactory because the tiniest turn of the knob makes it go from slightly slightly out of focus to complete blur.I’d give it one star, but my husband persuaded me that we might have had a good overall experience had we been able to connect to our WiFi to actually use the thing,

A great travel projector
This new BenQ portable projector is a great idea with a small footprint that makes it as easy as carrying around a bluetooth speaker, partly because it's actually built right on top of one!The projector comes with a USB C lead, remote control, link to the online manual, power supply and a nifty carry case. It's obvious from the outset that this is primarily designed for those who want to take a projector out with them, maybe to use it at a party or a friend's house. The carry bag and rechargeable battery give this away. As such, it's fairly simple to use and has a lot of streaming options out of the box.Once set up is complete, which involves going through menus to download apps like Netflix from it's operating system (a form of Android but only in name, this is very different), I had Netflix, Amazon, iPlayer and Plex set up. It even has a Kodi app on the menu as well as several well known movie format playing apps like VLC, which can stream from a computer or online drive. Generally, though, it's widely supportive of the mainstream streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime. The device can also connect wirelessly through Air Play, Windows and Chromecast as well as directly via USB C to supported phones and tablets. From here you can show your own media or use supported apps on your device to show it. It’s a little picky over what devices can be used over cable, but that’s more an issue with the devices.Picture quality was better than expected, being as this is advertised as 720p resolution. The colour reproduction was good and the auto aligning of the picture is welcome on a device that has a small fortprint and is hard to angle, though it isn’t always perfect. The lower resolution didn't really matter with this up on the wall in the house and it was enjoyable to watch even without a white screen in front of the wall. Sound, too, is pretty good with much of the body being taken up by the bluetooth speader (that can also be used independently via blurtooth to run off other devices. You can see the result on the picture I’ve included.Battery life falls a little short, though it should cope with at least one movie before needing to be plugged in. When on battery, the colours are a little faded, so it's still worth taking the plug and cable.I feel BenQ could have possibly marketed this a little better, it definitely helps when taking into account the expected audience. The lower resolution my be an issue for some, but it worked very well for me and my friends were also impressed. The colours are a little faded but nothing like some of the other projector's I've used andthis is certainly easier to take out with you to a party.
