Great for the price- not as messy as anticipated
The trees available at my local craft/hobby shop are $12.99 for three... They are great quality, but I didn't want to drop big money in order to build my railroad forest. After reading some reviews, I was a little nervous... but for 50 cents a tree I figured I would give them a go. They look great for HO scale in my opinion, and you can use the smaller trees further up your grades to create some forced perspective. There was some shedding- but certainly not the mess described in some reviews. Maybe they have made improvements? To counter the shedding- I sprayed each tree with some liquid mod podge (mist) and it works great. Super happy- you can even brush some light frost or snow on them with acrylic dry brushing. Very happy- ordering more now.And yeah- the trunks are metal- so they plug right into foam or plaster, but will require a small pilot hole for wooden surfaces.

Works great for my train set
I really like these trees. A couple of them were a little smashed, but I put them in the back overall they look great on my train set.

Quick way to build a forest
Although I like to make my own fir trees using carved balsa wood trunk, individual branches that are covered with ground colored foam (Woodland Scenics fine turf), it is time consuming and is best put in foreground scenes. For background, it goes much faster using premade trees. The package of trees I got, a pack of 40 with varying lengths from 2 to almost 5 inches long, is of pretty good quality. Although you do loose some of the foliage when unpacking and installing, there is plenty that stays attached. To help avoid the "prefect Christmas tree" appearance, I use some tiny clippers and remove some branches, shorten others to make each tree unique and not identical duplications. The price is reasonable as is the quantity and colors.

color variations
Nice trees for the price. I ordered these 3 or so years ago and recently ordered more. I noticed the newer trees are quite a bit brighter green than the original batch. Hopefully these brighter trees may fade a bit to match the first batch.

Good for N Scale
I bought these for a N scale layout I am building. I have a completed one with N scale trees. They're alright but none of them reach the 'scale' heights that you can see in the real world. But I can see right out of the box that this set designated for H or OO will look much better. Check the sizes.

Effective filler trees.
The trunk is made of twisted wire and the limbs are uniformly, conically trimmed. They're a bit to uniform for using around edges or seen directly, but they'll work as filler trees for a dense forest. I'm going to try painting or filling the trunks and roughing up the "man made" look to them a bit and see if they can be made more useful.

Great for Battletech
Bought this pack to make some forest markers for battletech. The wire on these bends easily with some pliers, making the process of attaching them to bases with hot glue all the easier. The tallest of trees are a bit too tall for my purposes, but every other size has been excellent. Only minor complaint is they can look a bit uniform as all your trees will be 1 of a few distinct heights, but that's looking for something to complain about. Even with the ones that I couldn't use from scale, this box gave me enough to make dozens of terrain markers. As for the people complaining about the loose flocking, yeah there's a lot of it, like, set up some newspaper and capture it, it's a fair bit of it and you can use it for crafting. I "cleaned" mine up when I got em and I'm still getting some loose flocking coming off em, but it's much less, and acceptable the whole time.
