5 Stars!
I LOVE the Riley Paige Mystery Series! Each book is so creative. I am especially fond of books with serial killers...I know I'm weird lol! Each book in this series has a serial killer...score!What I like most about this series is that the stories are original. I can definitely say I've never read about the type of serial killers he writes about. Very creative!I also LOVE Special Agent Riley Paige! I love books with a strong female special agent character. She isn't afraid to stand up for her victims and do what she believes is the best to save them! She will risk her badge to do whats right.I will have to say that I cannot stand Special Agent in Charge Carl Walder! I wanted to just reach into the book & smack him. I realize he needs to be in the book to cause conflict, but that doesn't mean I have to like him!Riley struggles with trying to be a mother & also be an FBI agent. Each book in the series shows the struggles she & April face. Riley battles this each day..wondering if she is doing the right things for April. I'm looking forward to reading more about their relationship.I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller!

I enjoy this series but God help us if the FBI ...
I enjoy this series but God help us if the FBI was truly this incompetent. No killers would ever get caught. Apparently NO crime can be solved by anyone but Riley, even though she's an emotional doormat who constantly takes idiotic chances with her own life and the life of her child. She lets everyone walk all over her - her daughter, her father, her ex, her boss, her partner, etc. She's convinced she's the only one who can possibly solve crimes and has this suicidal need to constantly prove herself. She apparently doesn't believe in actual time away from death and expects to be able to function normally. The FBI usually doesn't allow agents to work more than 6 months at a time on violent cases before requiring them to take some time off. This keeps them sane, fresh, functioning well. She apparently is a special experimental case that is allowed to keep going and using herself as live bait.Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the books. They're entertaining and engaging. I know once I start reading I'll have it done in a day or two because I won't put it down. I guess I'm just amazed that someone as reckless and clueless as this character is still alive and helping to catch dangerous criminals.I'd just like to see the character come back after a hiatus with her family (as mentally healthy people would do), grow a backbone when it comes to dealing with difficult people and learn to ask for help instead of storming into dangerous situations alone and expecting to come out the other side unharmed. No offense at all against the author. I enjoy reading these books. I'd just have far more respect for the character if she wasn't acting like a submissive moron 90% of the time. Be a true badass girl, or find a new career. Stop letting everyone push you around, stop thinking you're the only person on the planet who can ever catch a killer and learn to trust others to assist you. You have a kid, stop taking stupid chances every single time you take on a new case. There, I've said my peace. Carry on and enjoy. :)

Once Lured
While I loved Riley Paige up to this particular book, my opinion of her changed and I don't know if I want to keep reading these stories.....I have bratty children...and her daughter, April, is a bratty, spoiled child..she put her mother in danger and her caretaker, but mostly when her mother tried to protect her in a very secure environment, she....oh my....got bored....then on top of it being secure....the father visits....duh....killer watching....no sense here...and she talks her idiot father into taking her away.......after all she's earned the special time off and in a nice place....who is dumb enough to put their daughter in danger....with a family like that....she should just send the brat to her father and continue being AGent Riley Paige..

Excellent and evocative, with a big BUT at the end.
Time is something that is so intricately wound into our lives that we cannot escape it. From the moment we are born, we are counting down to something. Our next birthday. The next holiday. Going to school. Driving. Graduating. Drinking. Getting married. Having kids. And then starting all over with the next generation and their countdowns, too. Normally we are counting down to joyous occasions that we are happy and excited about. When someone takes that time-honored (no pun intended) tradition and twists it into something deadly and horrifying, people are shocked to their cores. For Riley Paige, time is something so precious. Time with her daughter, time required for her job. And knowing when it is time to do one or the other is a constant struggle. But because this is something she knows so intimately, she has insights even beyond her amazing skills as an FBI agent. Doubly frustrating for her, then, when she is told to leave the case and go home. Leaving behind junior agents who don't know what they're dealing with, and a head honcho who is so far wrong he'd have to be struck by lightning to see the light.Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, though, because Riley knows that she is desperately needed at home, too. Ultimately, the reader knows that Riley must resolve the one before turning her full attention to the other. Because a mind divided, just like a house, will fail.I loved this read. It was so hard-hitting and evocative. There was, however, a cliffhanger at the end of the story which I did not appreciate. I'm just not a fan of cliffhangers. If you're coming into a series with multiple books out, as I am with this series, then it's not so bad. You can dive right into the next book and pick up without missing a beat. However, we're not all able to do that. We may not be able to find the next book, or afford the next book. In some cases, the next book may not even be out yet. And then the reader is left unresolved and frustrated, and that's just mean.So while I really love this series, this one has to get three stars.

Cruelty to woman
This is not a criticism of the writing style - the author is a top-class writer. I just hate the detailed description of the extreme cruelty to the women kidnapped and murdered. Why the need for so much unnecessary detail? Wouldn't it be enough to simply use a minimal description of the extreme cruelty to the women used as instruments to teach the world a lesson. The amount of detail is not for me and I won't be reading any more Riley Page books, enthralling a character as she is.David Ellis
