A sporty, black leather strap gives the Torgoen Swiss Men's Black Ion-Plated 3-Hand Analog Rubber Strap Watch a casual attitude. A black ion-plated stainless steel case is topped by a black, ion-plated stainless steel bezel. A straightforward carbon fiber dial displays large, luminescent Arabic-numeral hour indicators at the three, six, nine, and 12 o'clock positions, as well as luminescent, rectangular hour indicators at the remaining positions. Large, luminescent hands, white stick minute markers, and a date window at four o'clock round out this black-and-white beauty. This timepiece arrives in a textile-lined black case and is water resistant to 330 feet (100 m). Simplicity, Boldness and Functionality Torgoen was founded by an enthusiastic private pilot, Benzi Rosenski. Rosenski, also a veteran of the watch manufacturing industry, combined these two passions to create Torgoen – Professional Pilot Watches. Rosenski envisioned a line of timepieces for pilots that are functional, affordable, well designed and durable. In 1998 the first Torgoen Swiss timepieces rolled off the production line. The name Torgoen is derived from Thor, the god of thunder in Nordic mythology, and Goen which is a derivative of “go”. The name symbolizes the boldness, functionality and simplicity of design (Thor) in time keeping devices (Goen). These principles guide the Torgoen team in the creation and updating of the line. Although the design of all Torgoen watches has functionalities useful for pilots, it is also perfect for ordinary people who appreciate tangible quality and no-nonsense, yet sophisticated design. The dials have numerals, markers and indexes inspired by cockpit instruments like altimeters and speed gauges. Cockpit instruments have been a subject of ergonomic studies that go back to World War II. This is part of the functionality and boldness that guides Torgoen. E6B Flight Computer – Useful also in the supermarket In many of its models, Torgoen uses an E6B Flight Computer based on the original design by the US army during World War II. The name was simply the Catalog part number of the device. It allows the pilot to easily solve problems of speed, distance and time. By knowing two of these variables, one can deduct the third with ease. This is based on a regular slide rule which was used by some of us that attended high school before the introduction of pocket calculators. It enables the user to perform any multiplication and division calculations. It is especially good while performing conversions of units and even exchange rate calculations. The watches come with a booklet in three languages with clear instructions of how to use the E6B and examples of how the E6B will help solve calculation problems. GMT (Zulu Time) – Keeping track of home-time for travelersTorgoen incorporated in many of its models another feature that is commonly used by pilots and favored by watch enthusiasts - a second time zone displayed in a 24 hour format. Communications between the cockpit and air traffic controllers always use GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) as a common standard. It avoids confusion by pilots arriving at an airport from different time zones. Every time zone in the globe has a designated letter. GMT was designated with the letter Z and pilots call it Zulu time since Zulu is the phonetic alphabet for Z. It is also useful for travelers crossing different time zones who wish to keep their home-time handy and easily displayed on their watches. Today the Torgoen brand includes 12 series in its line-up with over 61 different versions. "Considering the components and materials used, we feel that this brand is one of the best values in the market today". Torgoen Academy As part of the contribution and commitment to the aviation industry, Torgoen sponsors the Torgoen Academy for flight safety. The academy’s curriculum delivers specialized flight training to both private and commercial pilots that will increase aviation safety by teaching aviators essential recovery and survival skills not normally offered in either primary or advanced flight training. The Torgoen Academy’s training makes pilots safer by teaching them to deal with departures from normal flight, upsets due to turbulence and mechanical failures. Following a structured syllabus, pilots develop the ability to keep a cool head while applying techniques learned in the school’s aerobatic training aircraft to resolve the situation at hand. "We literally turn pilot’s upside-down in real airplanes in order to give them the confidence to fix the problem without the panic."

Great watch for the money.
Impressive watch for the money. Carbon fiber face looks great in person. This is a "large" watch only because the face is big and there isn't anything else on it -- just the numbers. The chrono version (T16) might fill everything in better if you don't like something that's plain. But that is what I wanted, something simple and sporty.I'm also impressed with the leather strap. Very nice and comfortable. We'll see how long it lasts but being that it seemed thick to me, I was happy with how soft it was on the wrist.Since Amazon measurements can sometimes be a bit off, I took my own with a digital caliper:Approx. 49mm wide, including the crown.Approx. 52mm from lug tip to lugh tip.Approx. 45mm from 10 to 4 (outside of case).Approx. 42mm crystal width.Approx. 14mm thick.Approx. 5mm band thickness.24mm lug width if you want to change straps.I have about a 6.5" wrist and this watch is on the upper limit of what I like to wear. The leather strap curves nicely to my wrist and doesn't give any visible overhang of the case. And that it's only 14mm thick, it doesn't look like a hockey puck on my wrist (like some other brands). My only two (minor) cons on the watch are that (1) the crystal distorts the face from certain angles and (2) the second hand does not line up with the markers on the face. Interesting, though, it does line up perfectly between each marker. The second hand not lining up is usually a deal-breaker for me, but how nice the watch is overall I'm looking past it.I don't believe Torgoen is making this watch anymore since it's currently not on their website. So grab one if you can, especially for less than $200 to your door. (I'm docking the price point some for the second hand not lining up.)Finally, great service from Amazon. Fast shipping and delivery. I paid $225 with free shipping.

Solid
Solid and what I expected. It has been a few weeks and I'm pleased with the watch. I'll hold out the last start until a year has passed. So far, so good.

you get what you pay for...
So let me see, a Breitling competitor for about 50 times less?Right. That is exactly what you are going to get!I got my T10, nice box, amazing bold watch, bright numerals, perfect.2 months upon use all hands got disengaged, that means I had all three hands completely loose between the inner side of the glass and the dial.I emailed Torgoen, the watch was on warranty. Never got a response. I emailed again and again and never got any response at all.So I had to get this fixed by myself.Three months upon use one of the two loops that keep the bracelet tongue from grabbing onto things broke and flew off.Seven months after initial use the bracelet cracked and parted, a new one is worth $50 which is roughly 33%of what I paid for the watch, never mind that this part should be made of something more durable, I think they are making them off gelatine judging by the lifespan. Then the watch chews battery like no other one.Now is behaving erratically. This is the worst watch I ever had.I wanted a no-nonsense watch which was simple and easy to read, also chunky, solid thing, for maintenance free use.I got none of these things with the Torgoen T-10Quality is horrible, customer service does not exist. Was I unlucky?Mmmm don't think so.I had better results with $5 watchesWhy would Torgoen insist with a rubber bracelet that ages and cracks within he warranty period, could not they do better than this?Well the answer well may be that they do not care as that saves them money, they will not replace it. They do not even spend money in answering the phone, they do not have one.And these people call themselves aviators?Ha ha ha haBottom line: great watch, poorly executed, expensive replacement parts you cannot find, non-existent customer service or warranty

Torgoen T 10
I have never owned a black pvd/ion coated watch before so i thought i should give one a try. I chose this watch because in addition to collecting watches and guitars, i also collect bicycles and i have several with frames made from carbon fiber. i think natural carbon fiber finished in high gloss is beautiful, and the face of this watch looks awesome. it is a very simple watch and that simplicity shows off the face. to me it has a Bell & Ross/WWII kind of look but with a modern twist. i have also never owned a watch this large. i have a7.5 inch wrist so it is not too big, but i would not want a watch bigger than this, however it is very comfortable to wear. it has a thick leather strap, the lume is very good, the accuracy is very good as it's quartz. the second hand does not line up with the hash marks. so why did i give 5 stars? because every time i look at it, it reminds me of my carbon fiber bicycles and that makes me want to smile, and that to me warrants 5 stars. I love Torgoen watches and i absolutely love this watch!

Great Large-faced Watch of Great Quality and Easy to Read
The watch is superior quality; fashionable and easy to read. It is larger than I thought it would be at 44mm so be aware of that. Over a great watch.
