Stanley 010481 FatMax Snap Off Knife 18mm

Excellent product, decided to upgrade to this one as it's been on my list to renew and replace my old one.

I do pack packages often and needed a sturdy and easy to operate cutter to cut the box tape as well as the cardboard boxes themselves. This one makes a noticeable different making those cuts. It is easy to work with and it is sort of heavy and sturdy giving a good grip. The blade itself is sharp and can be easily retracted back and forth. I love this cutter making my experience and usage a lot more comfortable.

Sturdy build. Everything works perfectly. Worth the investment as you will only ever need to buy blade replacements as they wear and, it holds a magazine full of blades which push up and replace blades which you can quick release when they're worn and finished. I love my knife 🔥

The original pre-Fat Max version of this knife is really good: pleasant in the hand, and beefy enough for many jobs that might otherwise need a traditional double-ended Stanley blade. The locking screw works brilliantly, and it’s useful to be able to extend the blade, for instance when cutting foam. This Fat Max model keeps many of those advantages, and adds a blade snapper, which was sorely missing from the original knife. But, as other people have said, the handle is very large and the plastic doesn’t have the same feeling of quality. It doesn’t spark joy, and that’s a pity.

This snap knife is great aesthetically and functionally! The blade “magazine” can hold 6 blades so you always have a fresh blade on hand. The fact it also has a blade snap tool as part of it (just push the magazine release button and then you can slide the tool out, you just put it over the blade tip to make snapping the end of the blade safer!) I use this knife almost every day to open parcels, boxes, and crafting projects. Grab a pack of replacement blades (Stanley FatMax 0-11-718 18mm Snap Off Blades (5/10 Pieces)) And you’re set!

I have several of these in my various tool locations. The extra blades in the body mean that you can always find a fresh and sharp blade when you need it - essential with so many DIY tasks. The bulk of the handle also ensure an excellent grip. My only irritation is that the screw plate on the back of the blade often seems to adjust itself if you store the knife temporarily in a pocket for ease of use, so you have to unscrew it before you can get the blade out again.

Why did you choose this product over others?: Fit For Purpose.

I've tried many, and this is my favorite. The side blade fixer enables precision cuts (when needed) and also can act as a safety feature, preventing unintended blade deployment. The knife might be slightly heavy, but it comes with a large magazine that easily fits five extra spare blades. Fixing, releasing, and switching to a spare blade can all be performed with one hand.

La marque Stanley n'est plus à faire, solide, tient bien en main, je ne peux que le recommander.

I contacted Stanley to inquire if I could buy the thumb screw that allows the blade extension and locks it in place. I broke the one off my years old now knife. Nope, no parts available for my old model ... BUT instead they said sorry it broke and promptly arranged to send me a brand new replacement. That's service that deserves encouraging so from here on out if Stanley is one of the choices for tools I want, they win :) BP
