Good book for the intermediate pianist
I don't know if the product description changed since the posting of some of the reviews below but I knew what I was getting when I purchased this book Andy Laverne's arrangements (as it says "songs arranged by noted jazz pianist/educator Andy LaVerne[...]with performance notes on his adaptations.")However, I am quite pleased with this book. As a beginning to intermediate pianist who loves Bill Evans and his music it's a great deal to be able to sit down and play through some of these tunes. I find the arrangements good enough for someone who either doesn't have a lot of background with improvisation or with solo chord-melody playing.I think Andy did a good job simplifying the tunes and this book seems to serve its stated purpose well. It's not Bill's notes but I think Andy did a good job of getting these tunes pared down to a playable level by an amateur player so I appreciate his work. The music is large and easy to read to which lends to the playability of this book.

Putting my hands on those chords
I had the privilege of hearing Bill Evans live many years ago. I'll leave the arguing over Mr Laverne's transcriptions to others. For me, the opportunity to get those chords under my hands just increases my appreciation of Evans's artistry. My goal isn't performance, I just wanted to play these pieces my self for myself. Most satisfactory.

Bill Evans Arranged by Andy LaVerne
I purchased this book for one piece, "Walkin' Up" - can be found on the Evans Trio CD, "How My Heart Sings!". I do not have the ear to transcribe this piece from the trio nor will my Audioscore pick up any of the subtleties. The CD version of this piece really swings. I transcribed the piece from this book into Sibelius 7 and practiced it; and it sounds pretty close from the book but just a little academic. I tried a couple other pieces and had more of the same impression, not written with the delicate and lively harmonic style of the Evans sound. I was satisfied with "Walkin' Up" - the purpose of my purchase.Contents of the book:217 Bill Evans 19 Arrangements For Solo Piano by Andy La Verne - Hal Leonard Show-type Tune (Tune For A Lyric) F Major Time Remembered C Major Very Early C Major Waltz For Debby F Major Laurie Bb Major Peri's Scope C Major Turn Out The Stars A Minor One For Helen C Minor Your Story G Major My Bells B Major Bill's Hit Tune C Minor Letter To Evan C Major Orbit G Minor Children's Play Song C Major Only Child Bb Major Peace Piece C Major Walkin' Up C Major For Nenette C Major Re: Person I Knew C Major

Undemanding arrangements that manage to capture the magic of Bill Evans' unique sound.
These arrangements by Andy LaVerne are not very demanding. Although accessible for an early intermediate player, LaVerne has managed, nonetheless, to capture some of the magic of Bill Evans' unique sound. In fact, in the intro, LaVerne explains technically what goes into that Evans sound, so the book has an educational value as well.

Doesn't capture Bill Evans essence or voicings
Very simple transcriptions. No dissonance in arrangements. Do not recommend.

I am having fun trying to play the masterful work of Bill Evans. The only draw back is not being able to print the music sheets.
