Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Art DC HSM Lens for Canon, Black (210101)

The 18-35 has a history of being a really unique lens for it’s time, with prime like quality in a fast zoom. I still think after all these years it’s still in it’s class of being a very good lens for the APS-C format. Image is sharp all around, though at 18mm you have a little vignetting. Very fast and combined with a speedbooster you end up having an extra stop of light to work with. The classic GH4/18-35 combo makes it viable in most lowlight situations, though I do think a full frame or modern crop camera even better. Focus throws are nice and smooth and the build quality is robust. I have dropped it several times from standing height and have had no discernible performance issues. It is not weather sealed, but seems robust otherwise. Because of the internal zoom and robustness, it is heavy. It’s not a easily walk around lens because of all the quality glass it carries, but the image quality will pay dividends. Just something to consider, quality over convenience. There is no IS, which for me personally makes it somewhat unfun to use. It would help a lot with the video side of things and I opt a lot of the times for the Canon 24-105 since it does have IS. It’s not a crazy terrible compromise in photography, but for video as nice as the quality is, you have to be steady or have a gimbal if you don’t have IS on your camera. I’ve moved on from crop sensor to full frame cameras, so it’s usage for me is a lot less frequent now. I’ve had a good time with it for concerts, portraits and product photography. If you’re on the APS-C format though, you really can’t go wrong with this lens. It won’t let you down. Just buy it used instead of new. You’ll save some money that way.

There's NO WAY there's a better video lens for the a6300 (if it is appropriate to use, meaning for being close up, or for wanting to be wide). WELL-- first let me state 2 things, first off, I am using the metabones speed booster adapter for Sony A mount to Sony E mount, and THIS set up sets this lens on FIRE, turning an F1.8 into an F1.3, which is the KING set up PERIOD. There's nothing like it, AND it's affordable. This lens is for APSC sensors, or APSC mode, not for full frame 35mm sensors. ALSO: Use of the metabones focal reducer (speed booster) is best suited for the cropped sensor version you get on the a6300 shooting in 4K at 30fps. When you try to use other modes, even 24fps 4K will cause vignetting on the lower range of focus, and some 18mm to 22mm will have vignetting. NEVERTHELESS--- go ahead and use it in 4K at 30fps, and THIS is just incredible what you get!! less than 2 meters from a subject, you can capture the entire room, and still zoom all the way in, and make your subject larger than life!! I just shot 2 days in the studio in North Carolina, and then an event the following day, all 3 days using this combo, (Sigma 18 35 with metabones speedbooster on a6300). I am certain auto focus is NOT something you would want to mess with, as trying to take stills using auto focus does NOT work, and that is an issue that makes me wish I had purchased the version of this Sigma 18 35 for CANON, and then the more expensive metabones adapter, but THEN be able to use the Sigma MC-11 adapter that is claiming native auto focus! (anyone tried that with VIDEO??) Me and my Dad can't believe what we just saw, even on our old 1080, 63 inch plasma TV, that was the most amazing footage of ANYTHING we have ever seen!! SO sharp, it's like looking through a WINDOW! The mics on the a6300 are WAY better than the a6000 now, and VERY decent, although of course not PRO audio grade. Don't EVEN question it if you are intending to shoot 4K with either the a6300, or using crop mode for your A7sii, and A7rii. For that matter, who has footage from an FS5 or FS7 using this Sigma lens and metabones speed booster?? THEN you could still keep zooming in!! THAT must be just out of control at F1.3!! ALSO-- this must be a monster low-light combo with the A7sii, which I will shoot next chance I get!! GOD!! I just wish I could include footage, but that would be a copyright issue to even send a link at this point, but YEAH, this is PRO grade stuff BY FAR in a VERY in-expensive package for some $2250, a6300/metabones speed-booster/Sigma 18mm to 35mm Art (and a tripod, this lens is not stabilized, and neither is the camera, BUT tripod duty does GREAT, and this has to be the most portable PRO 4K set up you could possibly get, for an amateur level price, for sure!! If you then get a Shogun or similar 4K recorder and monitor, YES, this is in FACT professional grade, although my Atomos Shogun Flame did not arrive in time for my event, forcing me to record internally, which I did with no overheating, and I managed just fine to NAIL focus. My eyes are perfect, but I did use the EVF, not the 3 inch LCD, which is borderline worthless, especially when using a wide lens. SO-- I will be keeping this a6300 in my bag with an A7sii, and A7rii, and of course, this lens is going to be used whenever possible just to get that shockingly SHARP image!! BAD ASS LENS!! Does very well shooting stills too, although using an laea3 could definitely be better auto focus, and using the laea4 would cost you the light you just added with the speed booster adapter. I was happiest using manual focus, and when zooming, it stayed "sharp as a tack", although it is softer on the edges than it is in the center, but it actually is an "ARTSY" effect that looks VERY nice, and puts extra emphasis on the subject in the center, so GREAT for shooting MUSIC events both in a studio environment, and concerts where you are either close, or want to get EVERYTHING in view, (or BOTH-- and then if you stick that on an FS5, you could keep zooming in from there!!) I'll be getting into an FS5 as well, especially now that I have several amazing E mount lenses and adapters.

Nonostante il crop 1.6x, le focali risultano versatili (circa 29-56mm equivalenti), ideali per ritratti ambientati, scene dinamiche e dettagli. L’autofocus è veloce e preciso, anche in condizioni di luce non perfette. La qualità dell’immagine è sorprendente: file nitidissimi, profondi, con colori naturali ma dal sapore cinematografico, perfetti per chi ama un look più personale e professionale. La costruzione solida e l’apertura costante f/1.8 permettono grande controllo creativo su luce e profondità di campo. Un must-have se si lavora in APS-C e si vuole qualità da ottica professionale.

One of the best lenses for Crop sensor DSLR like Nikon D7100. Gives you 27-52.5 range equivalent to a full sensor camera. This lens is the sharpest and gives outstanding images. This lens is equivalent to most of the prime lenses and has zoom along with autofocus. Only OS is missing which is not a big deal for its size. The zoom ring is towards the camera and the auto focus ring is towards the end of the lens and is confusing at sometimes but you get the hang of it after using. This lens has excellent wide range and is a must for every high end crop sensor camera. The lens is made in Japan by Sigma.

Besonders im Bereich Film sind viele Filmcrews und Kameraleute auf die besten Objektive der Welt angewiesen, jedoch sind die meisten wirklich guten Objektive außerhalb der Preispannen die besonders kleine Teams und Kameraleute sich leisten können. Da die Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera und auch die beliebte Panasonic GH4 mit einem MFT Mount kommt fallen normalerweise EF Objektive aus dem Programm doch dank einem MFT zu EF Adapter ist das dennoch möglich. So bringt Sigma einen neuen Glanz in die Welt der MFT Kameras und erzeugt lichtstarke und scharfe Bilder für die Filme der Teams die auf die Technologie der MFT Kameras setzen. Natürlich können auch Canon Kameras wie die EOS 600D welche ich habe damit verwendet werden (ein paar Fotos dazu sind am Ende der Rezension angehangen!) ------------------ Tipp für Adapterwahl: Es gibt manuelle und aktive Adapter für MFT zu EF Objektive diese haben jeweils unterschiedliche Vor- und Nachteile auf diese ich mal kurz eingehe - mein persönlicher Tipp ist der Aputure Lensregain, warum steht unten. Manuelle Adpater haben KEINE ELEKTRONIK und können dadurch keinerlei elektronische Signale durchleiten (es gibt daher keinen Autofokus oder Blendensteuerung, elektronischer Bildstabilisator wird nicht angesteuert) Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, Canon EOS EF, EF-S Lens to Micro Four Thirds System Camera such as Panasonic Lumix, OM-D & BMPCC Aktive Adapter: Es gibt aber auch aktive Adapter diese haben fast immer einen "Focal Reducer / Fokusreduzierung" dadurch wird die Blende vom Objektiv um bis zu 1 Stop verbessert, ein Autofokus ist möglich und der elektronische Bildstabilisator wird auch angesteuert. Besonders interessant ist jedoch der Fakt das besonders die Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera mit einem Crop-Faktor (Vergrößerung der Brennweite) von 2,88x kommt das würde dann aus einem 18-35mm Objektiv ein ca. 50-100mm Objektiv machen - der Focal Reducer verinngert das um 0,75x (aus dem 18-35mm wird dann theoretisch ein 38-75mm Objektiv mit einer Blende von 1.2 anstatt 1.8) Aputure DEC lensregain Kabelloser Fernbedienung Adapter für Micro Fourthirds (MFT) Mirrorless Cameras ------------------ Lieferumfang: --------------------- Das Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Objektiv kommt in einer wirklich sehr guten Verpackung mit einer kleinen Objektivtasche zusammen mit Anleitung, Garantiekarte, Objektiv und auch der Sonnenblende. Besonders auffällig für das Sigma ist das Material welches einen sehr sehr hochwertigen Eindruck macht - Das Objektiv ist wirklich sehr schwer aufgrund des Metallgehäuse. Inbetriebnahme: --------------------- Wie ein Objektiv an einer EF-Kamera genutzt wird brauche ich hier wohl nicht erklären, aber ich gehe trotzdem mal fix drauf ein. Das Objektiv hat einen roten Punkt am Ring welcher genau auf den Roten Punkt der Kamera gesetzt wird und dann im Uhrzeigersinn aufgedreht wird um es zu befestigen. Das gleiche macht man auch bei der Blackmagic und der Panasonic GH4. Leistung & Qualität: --------------------- Das Objektiv stammt aus der A-Serie (die "Arts" Serie von Sigma steht für Qualität und scharfe Bilder laut Sigma) und genau das merkt man nicht nur bei dem Gewicht des Objektives sondern auch bei der Qualität der Abildungsleistung. Die Blende von 1.8 ist sehr beeindruckend, denn meines wissens nach ist Sigma mit dem 18-35mm f1.8 wohl einer der ersten Hersteller die es geschafft haben ein solches Obektiv auf den Markt zu bringen. Durch die Blende von 1.8 kann man beruhigt mit dem Zoom-Objektiv auch auf Reisen perfekte Fotos machen wenn es mal etwas dunkler ist draußen bzw. drinnen. Auch die Tiefenschärfe kommt durch die 1.8 einfach nur perfekt rüber. Die Schärfe der Fotos ist unabhängig von der Kamera einfach nur gestochen scharf (besonders in der Preisklasse ist eine solche Klarheit, Schärfe und Blende sehr selten, bis nie zu finden) Autofokus & manueller Fokus --------------------- Der Autofokus des Sigma ist sehr schnell und trifft auf den Punkt, auch bei Low-Light Situationen kommt durch vergüteten Linsen eine ideale Scharfstellung zustande. Was jedoch einfach klasse gelungen ist, merkt man bei der Situation das nach einem Autofokus das manuelle überschreiben der Schärfe jederzeit via drehen des Schärfereglers möglich ist (man kann quasi im AF Modus trotzdem manuell nachschärfen!). Der manuelle Modus arbeitet leichtgängig, leicht und dennoch nicht zu leicht, sodass keine versehentliche Veränderung der Schärfe passiert. Objektiv an MFT Kamera --------------------- Wie bereits vorab beschrieben ist für die Verwendung des Sigma 18-35mm EF Objetives ein Adapter notwendig der es schaft MFT zu EF umzuwandeln. Je nachdem welchen Adapter man verwendet bringt dieser einige Funktionen mit sich (ich bin im Video bewusst auf den Lensregain "siehe oben" eingegangen da der manuelle Adapter mittlerweile eingemottet wurde bei mir.) Wie bereits oben beschrieben ist an der Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera das Sigma 18-35mm Objektiv mit einer Brennweite von 38-70mm zu vernehmen, dadurch ist der typische Filmbereich 35mm und 50mm relativ gut abgedeckt. Was jedoch besonders gut durch das Objektiv wirkt ist die 1.8 Blende (durch den Adapter auf 1.2) dadurch kriegen die Aufnahmen einen sehr guten Look, was besonders im Bereich des Abends, Dämmerung klasse durchkommt. Wer jedoch auch Nachts einmal ein paar Aufnahmen machen möchte sollte bedenken das bei ISO 400 und der 1.2 das Bildrauschen zwar kaum zu erkennen ist, jedoch immernoch vorhanden ist. Für die Verwendung des Objektives bei Tag sei eine kleine Warnung ausgesprochen, denn hier spreche ich den Tipp aus das durch das 72mm Filtergewinde einige gute ND-Filter verwendet werden können (bitte achtet darauf das ein <10€ Filter die Abildungsleistung des Objektives nicht sonderlich verbessert - meine Empfehlung ist Hoya als Hersteller). Durch einen ND-Filter können auch bei einer Blende von 2.2 am Tage wundervolle Aufnahmen gemacht werden und man erhält den typischen Filmschärfe-Effekt (der Hintergrund wirkt sehr unscharf - ist im Video zu sehen!). Fazit --------------------- Ein Objektiv kann man nur schwer empfehlen, denn es ist immer eine etwas subjektiv Meinung mit dabei. Das eigene Empfinden kann ich bei der Bewertung nur schwer raushalten, denn ich bin einfach begeistert vo der Leistung des Objektives für seinen Preis (und das muss an dieser Stelle erwähnt werden!). Besonders für semi-professionelle und Fortgeschrittene Fotografen und Videografen ist dieses Objektiv der ideale Begleiter. Wer noch nicht überzeugt ist, kann ja mal die Videoreview von mir anschauen und sich dann entscheiden ob es passt - ich hänge zusätzlich noch ein, zwei Fotos an die Rezension dran.

Je modifie mon commentaire car j'utilise cet objectif depuis un bon moment et l'on peut dire des choses plus pertinentes à son sujet. 1 - L'objectif en lui même : Le produit est dans un emballage impeccable, livré avec une housse semi rigide et dès la prise en main on sent bien la qualité de la réalisation. Cet objectif à connu les températures en été, l'hiver, et je fais de la photo en mode manuel la plupart du temps ce qui m'amène à réellement l'utiliser au niveau des bagues. Il résiste très bien. J'ai eu un tout petit souci de back et front focus que j'ai très vite solutionné avec l'affinage du réglage du dock que l'on achète à part. L'objectif dispose de plusieurs type de fixations autrement dit si vous avez un Canon ou un Nikon il faudra le préciser à l'achat. 2 - Pourquoi choisir cet objectif ? Sigma a tapé fort avec ce produit. Focale variable 18 à 35mm, on est donc sur du grand angle idéal pour les paysages voir des portraits. Cet objectif a été conçu pour des capteurs au format APS-C qu'il exploite bien. Sa focale fixe maintenant... Il faut savoir qu'en général, un objectif avec focale variable aura ce type de caractéristiques dont l'exemple qui suit est assez typique : 18-55 f/ 3.5 - 5.6. Cela veut dire en gros que vous aurez une ouverture très lumineuse avec une longueur de 18mm et un maximum à f/3.5 mais vous serez moins lumineux à 55mm avec une ouverture maximum à f/5.6. Entre les deux l'ouverture sera alors intermédiaire. Le Sigma à cela de formidable que vous pourrez avoir l'ouverture incroyablement lumineuse de f/1.8 maximum sur TOUTE la plage de 18mm jusqu'à 35mm de longueur focale. C'est assez extraordinaire. Je l'utilise avec un Canon EOS 70D, donc un milieu de gamme doté d'un capteur APS-C 1.6 fois plus petit qu'un full frame et mes images ont pris une réelle dimension après la prise en main de cet objectif. Vous avez donc la bague de réglage de la distance focale en mm mais aussi celle du diaphragme. Sur cet objectif, le dock dont j'ai parlé plus haut sert uniquement à effectuer le réglage de l'autofocus (correction du back et du front focus) sur 4 valeurs pour les 4 principales distances focales... C'est énorme !! Pour le moment c'st tout ce que je vois à dire... Je complèterai peut être par la suite.
