Order 2 and return a full set
In both of my shipments so far, 1-2 bags were not vacuum sealed. I had to get two replacements before I figured out how to make this work: order two full sets, return a set of four. There will be some non-sealed ones, guaranteed.

You never know
Solid packaging, good vacuum seal. Kitty hasn't had to use it, so I cant say if she'd like it. If I have eat MREs again, she's got hers too! I do have a home vac sealer, and I have busted those open. She doesnt seem to know they've been sitting around several months.

Good Emergency Dog Food
I had purchased dog food of this type from this same vendor way back in 2004. A few weeks ago I was going through our emergency supplies and realized that the expiration date on the food was 2009 - about 5 years ago!I opened one of the packs and fed it to my dog. She gobbled it right up - no problems at all. So the storage on this seems to be pretty good (I had kept it under a counter in an air conditioned home, so it was fairly optimal conditions). I did note that, of the 3 bags I purchased all those years ago, one of them did not have the vacuum seal. I opened that bag and the food looked fine to me (I fed my dog a small handful with no ill effects). The stuff is kibble after all - how much does it really deteriorate over time?To re-stock, I ordered three new bags. Just like last time, two came fine, and one had the vacuum seal broken. So I took one star away for that. Maybe that should cost them even more stars - having a third of your product defective seems like a pretty poor record (as others have pointed out). But, for me, the stuff is kibble and it seems to keep fine even without the seal based on my last order. Some things to keep in mind:* This is emergency dog food. If you're like most households, you'll have a big bag of dog food that is in various states of being eaten down. The emergency food would only be if you run out of food and you're in a crisis where you might need several days of food to survive until you can get help.* Remember to ration food. Depending on the size of your dog, each bag may not be their full daily ideal diet. But the point is to survive for 3 days - not necessarily to have a great diet for those days. So you may cut portions in half just to make sure that you and your loved pet can survive even longer just in case.* I wouldn't purchase a 30 day supply of this stuff. If that's what you want, then just always purchase 2 bags of food and, whenever you finish one, purchase another one. That way you'll always have 30 days on hand (depending on how much of the bag your dog goes through every 30 days).* I wouldn't use this as my travel or hiking dog food. Get yourself a properly sized Tupperware container for that purpose. This stuff is vacuum sealed specifically for very long-term storage and may not be the ideal portion size for all dogs.

Half of packages weren't sealed
These packages are vacuum sealed, which is what gives them their shelf life. When things are properly sealed, they are hard, because everything inside the sealed package is compressed since the air has been sucked out. Two of the packages I got were sealed, but the others obviously had a leak somewhere, because I could squeeze and flex the package, and the contents were loose inside the bag, not compressed like the others I got. I also don't know how long it has been unsealed sitting in a warehouse somewhere, so I don't even know if its safe to give the food to my dog with her normal food as a way of at least getting at least some value out of it.

Great emergency dry cat food
Great emergency dry cat food. My cat seems to like it just fine, but she IS a little tubster who will eat just about anything so...take with it what you will.

Think prior to buying this.
One of the four bags had its vacuum seal compromised and air got inside. Cannot tell if this is a result of poor processing by the manufacturer or shipping damage. Either way I wouldn't feed the food to my dog so it's in the trash. Cannot bother with returning all 4 bags which is what Amazon wanted done.I was going to use these as emergency food for my dog if we had to quickly evacuate our home. He has his own pack and the vacuum sealing reduces the foods volume. I think now I will just grab some of the food he currently enjoys and not try to feed him something different which he may not like. Just like humans, things such as food you are used to can be comforting during stressful times for pets.

DOG B.O.B.
Don't forget your pets. My dogs have their own bags and this is a great addition to it. It's not a lot of food but it guarantees a 5-year shelf life. I will be checking that out when it reaches that time.
