Emancipation Hell, a word picture of a tragedy
President Lincoln did not call his cabinet for a meeting on July 22, 1862 to advise him on emancipation of the slaves, but rather to tell them that he had decided on a "war measure" to free the slaves in the states in rebellion.Kirkpatrick Sales divides his book into the the resulting transformation and escalation of the war. He tells of horrors of the war and how both the the black and white citizens suffered together. Except for the Freedmen's Bureau, little preparation was made to help the ex-slaves. For example, there were only 100 doctors for the 3.5 million black population, and 1 teacher for every 100 students. Emancipation Hell tells the documented story of the cruel poverty and deprivation of the black and white southern people that lasted well into the 20th century.

revealing
The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him. that of course is from Proverbs 18:17 and is an absolute truth that should always rule. we who are products of public schools and liberal arts colleges have been indoctrinated with the froth, slobber and emotionalism involving loving the honest abe idol and tend to be astonished at a differing opinion. yet the truth slaps us in the face and wakes us up. deo vindice.

Excellent writing of the truths..
Emancipation Hell , by Kirkpatrick Sale is an excellent writing about the Truth of the Lincoln Proclamation regarding the "rue" regarding the issue of slavery and the Civil War. It should be taught in all history classes in all public schools. But it would not be politically correct in today's world. But I believe in telling the Truth, and this writing is the Truth.

Nice Essay that exposes the myths of Lincoln
A nice essay and companion to "The Real Lincoln" that exposes Lincoln as the true war criminal he was. Assad in Syria is a great modern example of who Lincoln was.

Very interesting read
A brief but detailed account of events surrounding the Emancipation Proclamation. Sale's analysis helps one appreciate what happen to the South and the US as a result of the manner in which slavery was abolished.Recommended
