A Curious Mixture
The first half of this movie was very hitchcockesque; I'd swear it was a long forgotten movie from Hitchcock, then it changed quite abruptly from the point where the main character has a lesbian affair (don't let your aunt or grandmother watch this part - it's very strong stuff with nothing left to the imagination!!). From that point forwards the movie becomes very confused and complicated with nothing ever really explained. For this reason, for me, this is an unsatisfying movie.

Fantastic film - but beware le DVD Francais avec des soutitres
Zut alors! C'etait en Francais (le produit vendé par GM DISTRI) avec les subtitres en Anglais. Tres mauvais. On ne peut pas voir la cinematographie magnifique parce qu'li y a writing all over the screen. J l'avais retourné pour le refund. Sacreblue Velvet!

Rebekah del Rio emotional and heartbreaking
Buy this movie for the exquisite rendition of Roy Orbison’s song Crying sung in Spanish by Rebekah del Rio in a baroque theatre infused with scarlet mystery and an exotic del Rio dying from a heart attack on stage as the last haunting cry’s of anguish echo from the auditorium. Your soul will be tugged by this scene for an eternity - well almost. Oops my OP got the artist's name incorrect.

Audio
Film itself (i.e. plot, storyline, acting, directing, etc) is 5 stars.Amazon prime “remastered” audio is terrible. Every two minutes I have to increase the volume to its highest setting to hear speeched mumblings. Then one is rewarded with tinnitus following the loud playing of a song or a car speed chase etc.I wish prime remastered this properly for prime viewers.Hence one star for remaster work.

Enjoyably confusing and mysterious
A contender for my favourite film ever. Lynch's signature dream-like weirdness at its best. It may be difficult, or even impossible to know what's happening, but it still sucks you in and affects you in an undeniable way.

not a fan
I would have liked this more if you were given all the parts to make a whole but instead you have to guess up your own meaning from an incomplete collage. If you like being David Lyinched then you'll like this, Naomi Watts gives an outstanding performance, all the actors do and the DVD reproduction is of excellent quality but I would have thought it more of an effort if in the end you could reassemble it into something like a definitive meaning. All arty but not art, not a Lynch fan as it turns out.

Transfer is perfect, multi language support for the menu; still censored a bit
As a David Lynch film, this is great, one of my favorites. What I really was hoping for in getting the Blu-ray from the UK (it's region B btw, so you'll need a player that does that) was that maybe, just maybe, that little bit of censorship in the scene with the two lovely ladies would not be there. Alas... the stunning Laura Harring drops her towel and that big blurry triangle is still there, and on Blu-ray it just looks ridiculous (why even do a full frontal nude and then censor it like that??). So, basically it's the same as the US release ever since I saw it on DVD... And in following up on the whole issue apparently it was Laura who requested that DL do that for the DVD release... so we can stop looking for an HD format that doesn't have it.The other thing I find rather annoying (which might have been in the DVD too, don't remember) is there's no proper scene selection - it's totally random, and the chapter cue buttons are disabled, too. WTF.The transfer looks AWESOME though, great color and resolution - going back to the scene when Laura Harring takes off the towel, after that there are nice shots of her face close-up and the detail of her lovely features is amazing. Also, this disc features four language selections (I think it's French, Italian, Nederlands, and UK) right up front and tailors the UI from that point based on your selection. It will ask again each time (at least it did on my player) so I actually checked it out with UK and again in French.

Best Movie Of All Time
What many people don't realise about this film is that the main character Betty/Diane is suffering from psychosis - a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality. A true masterpiece depicting the life of a person suffering from the aforementioned mental disorder, it could be in a way extrapolated to other mental disorders.A truly gripping plot, a terrifying experience and enthralling characters (some are imaginary of course and at certain phases of the film they depict Betty's/Diane's emotions/personalities analogous to Inside Out or Wizard of Oz).David Lynch is a big fan of Wizard of Oz, so to understand more of what the characters are supposed to be you need to understand Wizard of Oz, or just search for an explanation on youtube.PS. The film is intended for multiple viewings in order to form your own interpretations.
