It would be okay for a short time, but water left for a long time might leave a water mark.

How heavy is the package when delivered?

It is not that heavy, I am 70 YO and was able to bring it into the house. I also I assembled it by myself. If you lay out all the pieces prior to assembling (to make sure you have them all) and follow the step by step instructions, it goes together well and looks great when it in completed.

Will this fit to 11x11 inch storage cubes on each shelf top and bottom?

No. You can even fit 2 on top or bottom. Depends on what holes you put the center shelf in.
