Fascinating story, slow to start
I loved this trilogy (I love the author). What I find incredible and so interesting is how very different from each other each book is in style, in pacing, even in perceived audience. You almost would not guess, after reading the Midnight Witch, that the Silver Witch bis by same author. Yet all 3 are *so* very good. Only this last one has any "time slip" element to it, yet all are rich in historical detail and the reader is rooted in the context, both historically and setting. Descriptions of settings, whether 10th century, 19th century or 21st century Wales, are thorough and richly drawn. The Midnight Witch is almost frenetic in pacing, yet still gives time and attention to London of WWI era. I can't wait to re-read each of these books. Each of the heroines was wonderful, though something kept me from connecting. I definitely preferred one of the heros, overall. But side characters are this author 's strength, along with setting.

Well written
I loved this novel until the last quarter, when it became much too far fetched. The book is based on a real place in England with real historical events in the back story, which I loved. The descriptions of the area were gorgeous and the characters were well drawn.I was really to buy all of this author’s books when the story just became crazy far fetched, with monsters coming out of the ether.Otherwise, a fun and educational read.

Enjoyed this dance in story
Fun read! I found this story to be a lovely dance of unique women characters who are connected through time. I truly enjoyed the creative structure of the story and felt both characters relatable and strong. The inter-woven magic seemed like a natural reality for these women and a normal part of the world, which I like and appreciate. While it is not perfect; the ending was a bit rushed for a truly comfortable wrap up and it had some weak spots that left a few minor questions dangling, yet it was easy to let go of such fussing because the remainder is strong and unique. This is now one of my favorites from this writer-she is a solid and imaginative story teller. She brings the world of magical energies to an entertaining and believable level with a lovely zing. By using plot to create tension through pacing, it kept me wanting to read, plus she has a gift for snippets of beautiful prose woven through. Well done!

Lovely Read!
I was a little hesitant at the beginning. The story seemed a bit off from the other novels, but still I needed to finish. But just as Ms. Brackston's other works, you're pulled in. But this, not sure why, I was pulled in just as much as the others. Her books have the details that allow you to experience the story as it unfolds in your mind's eye. Thank you for all your lovely novels!

The Silver Witch
This is the first Paula Brackston book I've read. It's told from the perspective of its 2 female lead characters, Tilda who lives in modern day Wales and Seren who lived there in ancient times. The story alternates between the 2 characters so it goes back and forth in time. As the story progresses, the connections between Tilda and Seren become known. The writing is lush and so descriptive I could see the countryside and characters clearly. It is a well written book but agonizingly slow moving. I'm not certain I would be interested in knowing more of Tilda's story. I may try another of Ms Brackston's books. i have the Witch's Daughter in my Kindle library. I recommend this book to a reader who enjoys books with history and magic.

Amazing!
A real page turner. Could not put this down. The story is powerful. The characters believable. The action heart thumping and riveting. The thing that I love about Paula's stories is how they entice me to really think about the characters that are living the story. The Welsh history, language and culture have me branching out as I read the story to research deeper into the time period and linguistics, wanting to know more so as to be able to understand better the whole story. Paula's stories are touching and stay with me long after the last page is turned. Amazing!

Great story, but incomplete.
The story is very well laid out. Solid characters that have been fleshed out surprisingly vivid. But the story is incomplete. What happened to Tanwen? What happened to Wenna and her family? Did Tilda just stop researching her ancestry? What about her relationship with her parents?Maybe there will be a continuation. Hope so, because there is so much left unanswered.

Another great book
I keep reading Paula Brackston’s books and loving them. So many of her characters’ talents and interests mirror my own. I am a ceramic sculptor, I love animals and nature, keep and herbal garden from which I make herbal medicines to use and sell. The White Witch approaches being a witch a little differently than in her first three books, but her present day take on someone who has the talent but not knowing it, and discovering it is a nice theme for this book. One comment for those ceramicists out there, she does capture many of the things we do, and love and feel about the clay and ceramic process, but gets the technical details slightly wrong in a few places. Like when she build her wood fired kiln and was about to load it, She still had her green ware wrapped; normally you take the wrapping off for a few days to ensure it’s bone dry, otherwise it might have retained some moisture and could crack in the kiln. In that same scene, she doesn’t talk about bisqueing those pieces first, but talks about the glazes. Although you can glaze in greenware, most do not, and bisque first to ensure the glazes adhere properly.Having a ceramicist read those parts of her draft could have ensured the technical details were correct, but she got it pretty close for someone who, I assume, doesn’t work in clay.
