The Energy Smart House
This book covers so many energy saving features that were unknown when my house was built. Some of the energy nuggets I found were air sealing and thermal bridging. The use of polyiso for thermal bridging is one job I have. Air sealing will give me a couple of days in the attic. Also my. Windows are installed with just fiberglass. According to this book I also need slow expanding foam to go between the fiberglass and the inside trim. There is to much I have learned from this book to put it all in writing. If you want a complete book on the new energy savings for a new or already built house just go to Amazon and get this book!!!! You will learn how you can save energy!!! This book will save you money!!

Some Energy info for home.
Is helpful with some Ideas I didn't know about. I did find some of the information redundant of most current construction Technics. Though it has some really go info.

book is holding up as of 2021
I just flipped through the book and was surprised to see that it mentions HRVs and ERVs back in 2013! Radiant barriers are briefly mentioned the book but aren't given as much attention as they probably deserve. I'm biased due to working in AZ, CA, and HI where radiant barriers work quite well when installed correctly. Solid book. I wouldn't use it as the sole reference in planning a 2022 deep energy retrofit, but it quickly brings a person up to speed as to the factors and much of the technology involved. For instance zip sheathing 2.0 came along after the book(2013) was published. Rockwool insulation is pretty much ignored in the book but quite popular today. Its an affordable intro into DER projects. Nice illustrations, not much has changed since it was published in 2013. But make sure you have a handle on the current tech out there before sitting down with your architect so that everyone is on the same page. As of this review California PUC is considering changing Net Energy Metering for solar customers(existing and future systems), therefore reducing the credit the energy utilities give back for providing electricity into the grid . This would change the payback of a DER project if in CA. Allot of factors at play, cost and lifespan of battery backup changes over time. Just examples of variables to consider before pulling permits. I'll keep the book around.

Great Tips
The book is great! It's filled with basic tips for air sealing, insulation, and energy savings. There's also a lot of information on appliances like fridges, dishwashers, and stoves describing the technologies and efficiency of each type. I found the book easy to read and very informative. I've had the book for about a year now and find myself constantly referring back to it.
