(Unless you're in the woods,) first wipe with TP. Flush the toilet to avoid contamination of the spout. Fill the bottle (I use warm water.) Whenever you lift the bottle, hold your finger over the vent on the bottom to prevent leaking on your floor. Set the bottle in a small dish near your feet to catch leaks when you set it down again.

It depends on the bathroom layout. If the sink is next to toilet so I can reach while sitting, I fill it after I'm finished, and then usually fill it a second time to make sure I'm all clean. If the sink is too far to reach from the toilet, I fill it before, then I have to get up to fill it again, which sucks, but whatever. The hole on the bottom isn't supposed to leak, but I do get a slow drip from mine, but the floor is water proof, so I don't really care if there are a few drops on the floor, so I don't hold my finger on it. If I cared about a drip, I'd get a paper towel or rag to set it on for it to leak onto.

You're right, there should be some numbers, a symbol, etc. but I can tell you just from having one that it's something very light and pliable, because you have to be able to squeeze it, and it has virtually no odor at, even when you put warm water in it (unlike many plastic products you buy). It just seems very non-toxic.
