I liked the idea of teaching children to make wise choices when spending money. I was disappointed in that it was American money (I accept I should have read description more carefully). I also thought the fact that Grandad had to be phoned to collect them was a most valuable lesson missed. Surely fare home was most important? Pedantic, but whole selling feature of book is making wise choices.

Max and Ruby go to buy Grandma a birthday gift. Max gets side-tracked and wastes some of the money. Grandma is still delighted with her gift. Very witty, structured tale. Also introduces the concept of money/buying etc and raises a useful topic with small children in terms of simple maths. A delighful story, and one of my children's favoutites.

Several years ago I worked in the children's section of a large chain bookstore, and I used to have to do children's storytime at 10 every morning. Without a doubt, the books I chose to read to the kids most often were Rosemary Wells's Bunny Cakes and Bunny Money.These books are funny and enjoyable for kids of all ages. As an adult, I too enjoy the cute story and the adorable and colourful illustrations--Wells does an amazing job with the bunnies' facial expressions.It's true that Bunny Money contains a lesson about math, but a child doesn't have to be old enough to understand addition and subtraction to enjoy the book. I read this book to my two year old now, and he loves it.I highly recommend the Max and Ruby books to anyone who is looking for a cute and funny story that will be enjoyed by children aged 2-6.
